Advantages: very nice halls of residence
Disadvantages: Not enough rooms available, Housing office isnt very helpful
At the Harrow Campus of Westminster University, there are only about 450 rooms available. These being very modern and nice halls (only just been built a few years ago) the demand for a space in halls here is HUGE! When you can, apply for a place in Halls as soon as possible, or else you will wind up like myself and other people with nowhere to go. Although the university tries its best to help the poor students that didn’t get a room some degree of help, it is VERY stressful finding somewhere to live, especially so close to when the term starts. The university organises housing meetings on campus, which they will tell you about and the dates that they are going to happen. Here, you will meet plenty of other students who are in the same situation as you. However, this is where it’s your turn to make the effort. As intimidating as it is, the best advice I can give is that you go around and talk to people. That way you can meet people with common interests or band together and look for a house in a group (that’s what I did) At these meetings the university provides addresses, phone numbers and advertisements of places that are available around the Harrow area. Basically they leave it up to you to sort yourself out. This is the only part of Westminster University that I couldn’t stand. I thought that they should have given more help to students. The best tip is to persevere and keep cheerful...you will find something. I am now living with a friend of mine from my course and a girl I had met from the housing meeting is probably one of my best friends at university.

northernlass - 09/04/02 Ignoring the whining on your spelling, I am looking for a place to go to uni and to have a warning like this is very useful and if I do go to Westminster I'll be sure to keep it in mind. |
