Newest Review: ... ago, and myself and other course mates were housed in a nurses home ( kingway) that had been condemed unfit 3 years previously. We had some interesting home mates too, yes the furry variety! After requesting a list of approved landlords from the university and visiting some of the house, i was shocked and disgusted at the state of some of these homes, i think it took about 20 visits to actually find a place. With the increasing expansion of the campus, i am pleased that they have pulled their fingers out and thought about some decent safe accomodation for students. ... more

It would appear that Derby has picked its ideas up a lot over the issue of accomaodation in recent years. I was a resident at Derby Uni 5 years ago, and myself and other course mates were housed in a nurses home ( kingway) that had been condemed unfit 3 years previously. We had some interesting home mates too, yes the furry variety! Derby over the last few years has had lots of new halls of residence built. As Derby Uni used to be a college of higher education it had limited capacity for housing it's students. Now though this is not the case. It has modern halls of residence with single rooms (all halls at Derby are mixed blocks) and there is also a block of flats that have six single rooms, and a kitchen (the flats are single sex). The university also owns a lot of houses that are large semi detached houses that have been converted to house up to 6 students. Some of the bigger houses are two houses that have been knocked into one! The rent cost of the halls is obviously greater ...
