Advantages: Good selection of flats and halls.

Disadvantages: Inefficient and not accommodating towards students' needs.

It was a dreaded experience having to deal with the accommodation office. I am sure that most students who have, directly or indirectly, in contact with this office will agree with me. However, what I am writing here represents solely my own personal encounters and experiences.
Like most students coming to Nottingham University for the first time, I have opted to apply the self-catering flats managed by the accommodation office. Desperate to know the reason for not getting any reply from my application, I tried contacting the office all the way from my home country. After several failed attempts through e-mails, I tried using phone instead. It was then that I was told my application was put on hold until I pay a deposit. I couldn’t understand why no initiative was taken to inform me about this. Perhaps if I didn’t contact the officers in charge myself, my application form would end up in a waste paper basket. Then, a week before my departure for Nottingham, I rang up the accommodation office again to enquire about the payment and registration procedures, but all (almost 15) the calls were left unanswered. I tried for several days without fail but no one seemed to care to answer the calls. Despite my desperate attempts to seek help and guidance in the last minute, I was left with no choice but to come to Nottingham without any prior knowledge of what to expect.
I am sure that there are plenty of rooms for improvement. The accommodation office needs to evaluate the efficiency of their staffs and as well as the systems.
