Avon Way House Colchester - A Warning To Sudents (Accommodation in general)

AVON WAY HOUSE, GREENSTEAD

Just a word of warning for students thinking of moving into Avon Way House, managed by CRM students, in Greenstead, Colchester. On first appearance, the flats appear to be new and modernised. However, after living in a five bedroom flat for one academic year, my flat has found many problems.

Firstly, Greenstead itself is far from the nicest place in Colchester. A friend of mine has had his car broken into when it was parked outside the accomodation, a bike was stolen from the "secure" bike shed, and our flat has been broken into twice in the past year.

In terms of the accomodation, the flat is, quite literally, falling apart. In the first week our microwave broke, and withing the first term our beds all had to be replaced, the sofas both broke and a water pipe burst in the bathroom. I feel that the management team have tried to modernise the building at the cheapest possible costs, meaning there are a lot of problems. Bearing in mind this is the first year since the modernisation, I dread to think what it will be like in a few years time.

To make matters worse, the management team are completely incompetent and take an age to react to complaints. It took two months for us to get a new microwave, as with the beds, and our sofas have yet to be replaced.

Despite the obvious benefits of living close to campus, living at Avon Way House has been an absolute nightmare for me. I will certianly be looking for a house next year, or hopefully a move back to campus.

Summary: Avon Way House seems to be nice accomodation. But read my review before you decide to live here...
