Advantages: One of few places to offer postgraduate accomodation, very high quality rooms, variety of choices

Disadvantages: Can be expensive, but that is just exeter really!

University accomodation is a hard thing to find anywhere at most universities and although many universities are working on their accomodation strategies it is still a case of hoping and praying that you get somewhere slightly decent to live. Now that is undergraduate level! When you get to postrgraduate level it gets even more difficult. Most universities have no provisions for postgraduates just presuming that you can sort something out for yourself and lets face it many of us could, but sometimes when you are new to an area a bit of help is nice! Exeter however do have provisions for postgraduates and seem to be a lot better at this than many others. For a start they have a section on their website for postgraduate accomodation in which they list all the opportunties. You have the choice of catered halls, self catering flats or houses and a number of options for private renting.

I myself had a very happy year in Clydesdale Rise which are self catered flats for 8 people on the main stretham campus. Clydesdale Rise is right next to the postgraduate centre as well which houses a bar, computer and study rooms for all postgraduates and is just far too handy when you have had a stressful day and need a beer! All the rooms in these flats are en-suite with a telephone, data point for computers, satellite tv and a fridge in the room (handy for wine and beer as well as stopping everyone else stealing your food). They consist of a single bed, wardrobe, desk, shelving and a bed side table. I found that the facilities were very high quality indeed and in comparisson to the similar halls I was in at undergraduate level I would say they were miles better.

Halls are a great way to meet people when you are new to a place and although It wasn't really where I wanted to live it did help me settle in and being on campus was of help as well. I paid about £76 a week for this accomodation which with bills is not bad. However, compared to prices that my frie
nds have paid at other universities it is quite expensive I guess.

Good opinion. Exeter's post-graduate community seem to have a good lot of things at Exeter. There is also a good mix of undergrads and postgrads, but a level of seperation where postgrads can get on with their own stuff and the undergrads the same.

Post-graduate facilities are fine on one side of the campus, but if you choose to live in Lafrawda flats be aware that there is a long walk up a hill to the post-grad centre.
