Although the butt of numerous jokes throughout the uni, Stoneham has one of the strongest community spirits of any hall. And though the rooms aren't huge and contain old furniture, and though the lifts break down from time to time, SSH has some superb facilities: a music room with grand piano; small library; TV room; a bar/common room which, though empty, provides plenty of cheap alcohol, two pool tables, a football table, free jukebox and access to the huge, attractive garden. The summer gives use of two grass tennis cour... more

Let's be totally blunt. South Stoneham House is *not* a pretty sight. A fifteen story concrete tower block is the extension to an old brick house, making it a landmark in the Swaythling area of the city. I am satisfied with the courses and facilities provided by my department, ECS (Electronic and Computer Science) and my group, DSSE (Declarative System and Software Engineering). However I am very disappointed with the accommodation here, not because of the facility but because of the service. They are not considerate. Let me give you an example. I have many friends who are doing Master course here in this university. Their course end at end of September, to finish their dissertations. However the accommodation team ... If I were to choose the student accomodation between MonteFiore and Glen Eyre, I would prefer Glen Eyre. Why? Glen Eyre is surround by greens, but Monte is surrounded by forest, not green forest, but concrete forest! Generally, at the same cost, you will get a better quality and more spacious room in Glen. Furthermore, Glen is close to the university and also the Common (a big park), the community sport centre and a public golf course. The Glen reception is more helpful and friendly too. ...
