Newest Review: ... Situated on the North Haugh New Hall is used as a hotel over the summer months, meaning that it is a luxury stay. The rooms are all en-suite with a double bed and a tv(though liscensing comes out of your pocket). The atmosphere is not the most friendly as the hall is designed on a swedish prison. I didn't like it that much but that is not to say that you won't. Fife Park This area of accomodation is made of self sufficient housing that contain six bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen. The cleaning is left up to you but a cleaner comes round once in a while to lend a hand int he kitchen and bathroom. Fife Park is hwever situat... more

Over the two years I have spent at st Andrews I have had the delight of being able to maintain a place in the University accomodation. There are many different accomodation places on offer around St Andrews in many different halls, each hall is priced differently. Of these many halls I have stayed in two and visited most at some point. Here is a little about some of them: New hall Situated on the North Haugh New Hall is used as a hotel over the summer months, meaning that it is a luxury stay. The rooms are all en-suite with a double bed and a tv(though liscensing comes out of your pocket). The atmosphere is not the most friendly as the hall is designed ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review New Hall (817 words)

Situated on the North Haugh, 10 minutes or less from the town centre (depending on how quickly you walk / stagger home) New Hall, is easy to spot from the main road heading into St Andrews. It's the sprawling, pinkish grey breezeblock structure with the turrets, yes turrets, although I've never figured out if they actually have a functional use... On the ugliness meter, New Hall actually isn't that bad. Large areas of ugliness, namely the Biomedical Sciences Building and Andrew Melville Hall, between which New Hall is sandwiched, actually tone down the hall, making it quite pleasing to the eye. Down to the important stuff. What's it like to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Accommodation in general: David Russell Hall (614 words)

I had the (mis)fortune to live in David Russell Hall for 3 of my years in St Andrews, a situation brought about largely by financial necessity, as DRH was (and still is) the cheapest hall of residence. And with good reason! It is a good 20-minute walk from the centre of town, and a walk in the bracing sea breeze does a good job of waking you up in the morning, especially if you've had a heavy night in one of the town's many hostelries! Apparently, the design of the hall (10 separate concrete blocks in a rough 'V' shape) was borrowed from a Swedish asylum, the theory being that from every window in hall, you could see at least one other ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Andrew Melville Hall (172 words)

I had the mispleasure of staying in Andrew Melville Hall whilst in St Andrews and let me tell you that it is not for the faint-hearted. Firstly there is the location - probably about a 25 minute walk from most university buildings (when sober) and a long, long stagger back from the pub after a few. Secondly there is the building - a total eyesore and beleive me the pictures do it no justice. It truley is a grim piece of work. Anybody seeking something pituresque should definately avoid it. Thirdly is the temperature - cold, cold, cold. Bearing in mind also that at weekends they still do not put the heating on during the day. This situation ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Accommodation in general: David Russell Hall (129 words)

David Russell is one of the biggest halls at St Andrews, and is generally acknowledged not to rate so highly as most of the others. The rooms are very small, and you are (unless very lucky) required to climb lots of flights of stairs to get to the rooms. This can be especially "fun" when moving in and out. Additionally the food is worse than bad! Probably the most important thing about this hall is that its about 15-25 minutes (depending on how fast/slow you walk!) from town and most lectures. On the other hand, its fairly conveniant for sciences and sports facilities. The people are also mostly very nice, but the hall is not as nice as they try to make out ...  Read the complete review
