I had the mispleasure of staying in Andrew Melville Hall whilst in St Andrews and let me tell you that it is not for the faint-hearted. David Russell is one of the biggest halls at St Andrews, and is generally acknowledged not to rate so highly as most of the others. The rooms are very small, and you are (unless very lucky) required to climb lots of flights of stairs to get to the rooms. This can be especially "fun" when moving in and out.
