It was only a couple of years old when I was there and still looked new and modern. There was a shop and laudnrette nearby which was very useful, and also a 24 hour Tesco Extra ten minutes away which was fab for drunken midnight visits (they have since built a McDonalds nextdoor) The Talybont social centre was cheap and cheerful, but there are plenty of other clubs and pubs nearby, with a taxi rank inbetween Talybont North and South for those that are too lazy to walk. I spent my first year at Cardiff university living in Talybont South. Although this wasn't my first choice of residence, I feel that I ended up with the best deal. Talybont is only about a mile from the university and town centre, and there are frequent buses as well as a free nightbus every evening. My flat was self catering, and all of the rooms were ensuite.
