I spent my first year at Cardiff university living in Talybont South. Although this wasn't my first choice of residence, I feel that I ended up with the best deal. Talybont is only about a mile from the university and town centre, and there are frequent buses as well as a free nightbus every evening. My flat was self catering, and all of the rooms were ensuite. It was only a couple of years old when I was there and still looked new and modern. There was a shop and laudnrette nearby which was very useful, and also a 24 hour Tesco Extra ten minutes away which was fab for drunken midnight visits (they have since built a McDonalds nextdoor) The Talybont social centre was cheap and cheerful, but there are plenty of other clubs and pubs nearby, with a taxi rank inbetween Talybont North and South for those that are too lazy to walk. If you're into sports, Talybont is by far the best place to live because of the sports centre. Also, most rooms in Talybont South now have network points so you can surf the web to your heart's content without having to queue in computer labs.
