Advantages: Friendly, College style

Disadvantages: Bit old

When I first applied to go to Lancaster I didn't really want to go to uni' and only want because my sister had gone a few years before. So when i got my form asking for me to choose my accommodation, I put down that I didn't mind which college. Looking back that was a great decision!

I probably wouldn't have chosen Lonsdale on paper, it's one of the smaller and older of the colleges but I ended up having three of the best years of my life there. It's got a great friendly atmosphere and you'll make loads of friends on the first day - I promise!

of course there are lots of other choices, there are 9 colleges in all and each has their own halls, some are more expensive than others but they are all a reasonable standard and most have a wash basin in the room which is handy. Whichever one you live in, you'll be convinced it was the best choice.

One thing I would say if you do want to choose a college and not go for the lottery approach as I did, is to look where your lectures will be and choose one near there! There's nothing worse than living in Pendle and having 9am lectures in County (the other end of campus)- you will find this out and it's best to be prepared in advance!

In all, don't listen to what people say about uni halls - of course they're not like home and no, the showers are not always pleasant. But if you want to be a 'real' student, don't pay the extra for an en-suite bathroom or any other luxuries - you'll end up thinking you've missed out!
