Accommodation in generalNewest Review: ... You get enough space to keep all your stuff without any problems, and a sink in your room. There are bathrooms and showers, as well as a bath and a shared kitchen, in each house. Each house has 7 or 8 bedrooms in it, which means that the facilities aren`t overcrowded. However, all this isn`t very important. What matters most about Melville Grove is the area it is in. The security is appauling, and as a result it can be quite dangerous living here. My boyfriend is a large scouser, so he has (touch wood) been OK so far since he knows the danger signs and when to get the hell out of a situation. most people living there are either smal... more |

Living at Melville is not as portrayed here and the review from April 2001 is not a fair review of life at liverpool university.
Perhaps some recent students would post reviews here and give a more balanced review (which badly needs updating)
I would reccommend students to check out other websites before making thier minds up as to University accommodation

I`ve not lived in Melville Grove myself - I`ll say that upfront to be totaly honest. However my boyfriend and a lot of other friends DO live there, so I spend a fair bit of time both in the halls andthe surrounding area. There is a HUGE problem here with security, but I`ll get to that in a moment. The rooms themselves are relatively small but quite well designed. This is aimed at Freshers spending there first years in Halls of Residence in the University of Liverpool. I spent my first year in halls at the Derby and Rathbone Halls of Residence, which I found to be extremely enjoyable. It cost me over 2000 pounds for a years catered accomadation. I have to honestly say that the food wasn't much good or the rooms were particularly brilliant but what make it so good is the fact that it is so large and this virtually guarentees you to make friends during your time there. The JCR is reasonably priced and you will find that they put on some decent events and promotions. The area around the halls is very ... Read the complete review

Mulberry Court is a self-catering block of university halls, run by the university along with Melville Grove, St Agnes House and Philharmonic Court. The halls are situated in the university campus, giving direct access to the university, and a few minutes walk away from the city centre. There are local shops and banks as well as chippies and pubs :-D, and it is neighbours with the sports centre and the guild. A taxi from the city centre at night is approx £2, as compared to £5 and upwards to areas like Wavertree where most student housing is. Security is good on site, to get to my room there is a locked gate and two locked doors to pass. Also to get to ... Read the complete review

Melvill Grove is a halls of residence run by the University of Liverpool. It is in the city centre, literally 2 minutes walk from the main campus and 5 minutes walk frmo the city centre itself. The rooms currently have an internet cnnection and a phone line in each room, although the internet connection is going to be removed for the next accademic year (2001/2002). The rooms themselves are relatively small, but quite nicely furnished with a shared kitchen and at least 2 bathrooms shared between the 7 or so bedrooms in each house. The kitchen has a cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer, and their is a laundrete onsite. The contract is long for halls ... Read the complete review
