Advantages: On-site facilities, good security, cheap rent
Disadvantages: No phone lines in rooms
Mulberry Court is a self-catering block of university halls, run by the university along with Melville Grove, St Agnes House and Philharmonic Court. The halls are situated in the university campus, giving direct access to the university, and a few minutes walk away from the city centre. There are local shops and banks as well as chippies and pubs :-D, and it is neighbours with the sports centre and the guild. A taxi from the city centre at night is approx £2, as compared to £5 and upwards to areas like Wavertree where most student housing is. Security is good on site, to get to my room there is a locked gate and two locked doors to pass. Also to get to the "living area" people must pass the reception - there is always a porter on duty there. Mulberry Court has an on-site launderette. The rooms are fairly small, but each floor houses 8 students and there is a large kitchen which is commonly used as a living room. The rooms do not have telephone lines but there is a phone in the kitchen, there is a payphone in the launderette and there are 5 public payphones nearby. A cleaner comes to each floor once a week. The rent is approx £49 per week, including electricity, water and gas, but not including the phone bill.
