Advantages: In the city centre

Disadvantages: Not too cheap, poor security onsite

Melvill Grove is a halls of residence run by the University of Liverpool. It is in the city centre, literally 2 minutes walk from the main campus and 5 minutes walk frmo the city centre itself. The rooms currently have an internet cnnection and a phone line in each room, although the internet connection is going to be removed for the next accademic year (2001/2002).

The rooms themselves are relatively small, but quite nicely furnished with a shared kitchen and at least 2 bathrooms shared between the 7 or so bedrooms in each house. The kitchen has a cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer, and their is a laundrete onsite.

The contract is long for halls - 48 weeks for undergraduates, but well worth the money. You save on Taxi`s home after a night out, you don`t need a bus pass to get in to university in the morning and you are so close to the city centre you can roll home every night. :-)

One problem that you may have with Melville Grove is a lack of security on the site itself. One student was mugged onsite at the start of September for example, although this kind of attack is very rare and security is either onsite or a few minutes away at worst. If you are concerned about your personnal security more than average, then you may be better off trying other halls.
