Advantages: Close knit community, Spacious living areas, Top freshers line-up

Disadvantages: Shared rooms, Sometimes a bit noisy at night, Tucked in one corner of the campus

When I received my accommodation preference sheet when I had my offer, I wanted to go self-catering so promptly had a look at which each hall had to offer. When I saw that Butler Court only offered shared rooms, I crossed it off as a no-no straight away.
Because I did not get into my first choice of course, I accepted another course they offered me knowing that I would at least be put into a hall where as going through clearing, nothing was certain.
A week before coming here, the accommodation details came through saying that I would be in Butler Court. My heart obviously sank. Now that I'm here, I'm glad that they did put me in Butler Court, as the hall spirit is unbelievable!

Butler Court is made up of six blocks with four floors. On each floor are two or three flats. Each flat contains a kitchen and three en-suite twin rooms. Kitchens are cleaned thrice a week and rooms once a week provided that the cleaners could get in!!
As a fresher, a whole fortnights worth of events are planned for you by the halls own student committee made up of older people who still live in the halls. These include fancy-dress events in the town, trips to the union bars as well as trips out side Loughborough. These trips are the gateway to making new friends within the court.
Finding Butler Court is the second easiest to find either if you don’t know the place or are totally inebriated. Dominating the skyline is the Towers hall or residence, which is around 20 stories high. Follow that and Butler Court is situated there. It is beside Épinal Way, the Loughborough Ring-Road but access is very limited. For freshers, on day one, arrive as early as possible otherwise it will be very difficult to find a parking space near the halls.
As with all halls on the campus, there is an Ethernet connection and a telephone line for each person. Registration is painless and the connection speeds are phenomenal compared to the standard modem. You wil
l need to buy an Ethernet card for your PC to use it otherwise using your modem through the telephone line will prove very expensive. At £2.90 a week, it is only a small extra to pay on top of the accommodation bill, especially if you are on dooyoo at all possible times!!
One small gripe is that the bus service that runs thought the campus goes nowhere near Butler Court so if you are doing an engineering based subject, you either face a very long walk or a slightly shorter walk to the bus stop by the union. Other than that, all I can say is don’t dismiss Butler Court as and when you get your accommodation preference sheet. You might be pleasantly surprised!
