Advantages: Everything you could possibly need within walking distance

Disadvantages: Nothing that springs to mind

Cairncross House student halls are just a ten minute stroll away from Glasgow University campus. The route takes you right through the middle of attractive and leafy Kelvingrove Park via Kelvin Way; a reasonably well-lit road and path with lovely views of Kelvingrove Museum, the River Kelvin and of course, the ancient University buildings themselves that tower above it looking all photogenic.

Kelvinhaugh Street is dominated by a cluster of Student flats/apartments on both sides of the street, with Kelvinhaugh Gate Halls, Kelvinhaugh Street Halls, and Cairncross Halls on that street. The three halls have just under a thousand student residents between them and look relatively attractive and well maintained from the outside.

There is an abundance of good pubs, clubs, restaurants, grocery shops and social life in the immediate vicinity. I would say that the Kelvinhaugh Street/Cairncross cluster is one of the best locations for students studying at Glasgow University. Certainly its one of the closest, and for those first-years worried that it's mainly older students and postgrads living in the cluster, worry not. There are plenty of first years there in 2009, though definitely not as many as Murano where the fire alarms seem to go off nightly. While Kelvinhaugh St Halls are by no means sedate, anyone looking for 24/7 party central might prefer Murano, even with the 25 minute walk back up the hill at the end of the Uni day and no grocery shops on the doorstep. For my teen who was initially disappointed not to get into Murano, it turns out to be a great place and an aesthetically pleasing walk to boot. Public transport is close at hand and relatively cheap, with a subway station nearby, rail link to the city centre, and frequent buses into town. A University minibus operates a shuttle between the campus and flats during the evening. It's your call!

more info:
"Cairncross House offers self-catered undergraduate accommodation. This residence offers accommodation over 4 flours, comprising a mix of twin, single and large single study bedrooms which all have individual internet connectivity. Twin bedrooms are single sex only"

Summary: A great location for public transport, shopping, parks, pubs and student nightlife

If you update a review its wiser to message each member that requests it to updated. Since you have updated your review it does have much more useful info for students.
