Castle Leazes HallsNewest Review: ... laundry. The floors are seperated into houses and around 13 people live on each floor in each house, but they are all connected in the halls and if you don't get on with people you live near there are people in the next house just along the corridor! Each house has between 2 and 3 toilets between 13 and also 3 showers and a bath. It doesent seem like much, but its very rare that you ... more |

Having spent this last year at Castle Leazes I have found it to have a lot to offer first year students at Newcastle. Castle Leazes is so close to the university and the town centre which makes it easy to get around without getting lost. it also saves alot of money on travel as everything is in easy walking distance. The quayside is only a twenty minute walk away, and nothing is much further away than that. Other than the location, Castle Leazes offers the biggest source of accomodation in halls in the area and therefore gives you plenty of opportunity to meet new people, and in the first week this is so easy as there are always people walking around. The laundrette ... Read the complete review

These other reviews are misleading. All though Castle Leazes halls is best for location and meeting loads of people, sadly it is also frankly crap. Do not come here if you value your freedom, especially after a gap year because it is very claustrophobic. Nearly everyone is a first year. All 1050 people have to walk in and out of the same door, with people checking who you are. It is designed like a prison. It is not at all homely. It is way too expensive and loads of the facilities are kept locked up or don't work. 95% of foreigners are segregated even if they have lived in England for years. The management staff do not listen. The wardens do not help. We ... Read the complete review

I lived in Castle Leazes Halls in my first year at university and I thought it was the best introduction I could have had to university life. Castle Leazes Halls of Residence is actually a combination of three connected halls. These three halls are called Eustace Percy Hall, Havelock Hall, and Hiscock Hall. Each of these halls has 350 rooms. I lived in Eustace Percy Hall in the 1996-97 academic year. In that year Hiscock Hall was closed while they refurbished all the rooms. The previous year (1995-96), Eustace Percy Hall had been refurbished, and the year before that (1994-95), Havelock Hall had been done. So, as you can see, I was lucky enough to be the first ... My opinion of Castle Leazes halls of residence is that it is a great choice if you are a first year at Newcastle. It is a great way to meet people and form really strong friendships. However Castle Leazes can slightly reduce the freedom you have due to the presence of sub wardens. Oh yeah and the food is pretty bad too. However I love the halls, they are in immaculate condition, the rooms are a good size and it is a great way of meeting new people. Also the position of the halls by the campus is really handy, I would hate to be further out. Overall I'd say Castle Leazes is great for 1st years although definetely not for 2nd years or above. ... Castle Leazes is the place to be - you can apply to one of three halls within the one main building, although there's no real difference between them. Most freshers live here, mainly because it's the handiest for town and uni, and there's no need to worry about food (it's not wonderful, but I've had worse). Floors/corridors are single sex, but this didn't prove to cause any problems Just for interest: Next door (well through a cow field) is Ricky Road (Richardson Road) which is more basic than Castle Leazes, and is based on six people sharing a flat type set up. No meals, so cheaper. Less sociable. The other ... Read the complete review
