Dunbar Halls in a brilliant place to spend your first year at the University of Aberdeen. Probably the most friendly of all the halls, Dunbar is bright and warm and has its own computer suite (v useful for pulling all-nighters). The rooms are a fair size and although on first view the corridors may seem like a never-ending maze it's easy to find your way around. Each room has a sink and a big wardrobe in addition to the prison-issue desk and bed (with non-removeable plastic sheeting) but it's surprising how quickly you don't notice waking up stuck to the mattress. All rooms have radiators, the heating included in the price - a neccesity in winter-time in Aberdeen. Also included in the price is breakfast (cereal, toast, fruit, etc ) and dinner (bland but edible) Mon-Sat. Sundays there is a brunch served - possibly Dunbar's best asset. Vegetarians are catered for.
Toilets and showers are shared - but this usually isn't too much of an inconvenience so long as you don't mind going unwashed to lectures once in a while.
You also get your room cleaned regulary and your sheets changed - which is a novelty. All in all Dunbar makes a great 'changeover' from living at home to living at university. Most residents are 1st years, although a few choose to stay on for 2nd, 3rd and 4th yr study.
Oh yeah,...the staff are very helpful and supportive too.

I agree with the previous review; Dunbar Hall WAS a great place to spend one's first year at AU, unfortunately, it no longer exists. I went back to visit, 20 years after staying there, just in time to see the bulldozers knocking it down. Sad, so many memories...
