“ If your halls aren't included here please suggest them. „
In my first year at coventry university, i stayed in Singer halls of residence. And by secretly judging other students accomodation, i thought singer halls was the best.
The room: The rooms in singer were spacious and had a bed, a long desk, a wardrobe, shelves, cupboards, a sink and 2 chairs. The rooms were larger than other student accomodations i had seen. The bed however was a problem, they were on wheels! So if a group of you were sat on the bed watching a film, and were leaning agaisnt the wall, the bed would slowly but surely roll away! it was quite annoying!
The Flat: There were two toilets, one a plain toilet, the other had a bath in it too. There was a separate shower room. The kitched was ok, small, and there is no sitting area which i think is singer halls biggest problem.
Security: The security was a lot looser than at other accomodations. Anyone could walk into the area of residence, while most other accomodations require a card to simply get on the grounds. This is good however, as it means you can have an unlimited amount of poeple in, and since people need cards to get in the stairs, then a card to get into the flat, and then a key to get in the room, it was pretty secure anyway.
Services: If you lock yourself out of your room you can go to the office and get someone to let you in. this will cost you though, especially if it is at night. Many times i locked myself out, and would have to sleep on peoples floors.
I think this is the best accomodation because it is more free than the other ones, some even have a curfew! This accomodation, while it said not to in the rules, allowed you to have anyone stay over and at the end of the year, i had marks from glowsticks all over my wall, and i didnt get fined! oh yeah!
Priory Hall is catered accomodation bang in the centre of uni campua, it consists of 3 blocks, one tower block, one block that stretches over the top of the road and another shortish tower-ish block. singer is is self catering halls situated about 5/10 minutes away from priory. Priory is great if u really dont want to cook and want to be really close to lectures. literally some people are 30 seconds away from their lectures! theres a great social scene and u get to know loads of people. disadvantage is that the food tastes like slop sometimes and sometimes u just want to be able to choose what time u eat!! also it's corridor type place, so it's like a rabbit warren and a maze! singer is a little further away but not too far...about 15/20 minutes walk max to furthest lecture theatre. it's a really nice halls with great facilities and good kitchens and good things in them. there's no lounge area which is a pain sometimes just a table and chairs in the kitchen so it's not all that homely. but singer is nicer than priory in that it's more like home and mor elike ur own flat asnd not just a maze of corridors! in one flat in priory there's 12 people (i think!) to one flat sharing a kitchen (which just has a microwave!!) and bathroom. singer, there's 6 people to a flat sharing a shower room, a bathroom with toilet and bath and another toilet in a separate room. i stayed in singer and definitely chose the right place for me. singer costs about £60 a week and priory about £75+ a week. all in all, i would choose singer and would stay there again if i could!! I stayed in singer during 2002/3 academic year and had many many many friends in priory. the below ratings i've given to singer cause i stayed there and priory isnt rated below, just singer
