Disadvantages: Be sarcastic to burgulars

OK, picture this...

You are a burgular. You know every student has at stereo, some CDs, possibly a TV and video and more than likely a PC/laptop.

You also know that they go home for holidays, Christmas, Easter.

Its very obvious when you are not in. No lights, loud music, kebab/vomit on the pavement outside. Beer cans in the garden etc.

Student houses are a regular gravy-train:

* Easy to break in thanks to shoddy landlords.

* No risk of interruptions.

* Plus, rob them at Christmas, let them claim on insurance, then wait for them to replace their stuff, then nick it at Easter.

* Don't leave passports/driving licenses

Its worth taken expensive stuff home, and get used to the idea that you may get broken into. It happened to me and my mates twice.

The second time they broke in, we had chained everything to gether in the top bedroom and chained out bikes to the stairs so they couldn't carry things past.

Plus we wrote "STOLEN" on everything in wipe off marker.

They nicked all our remote controls. Serves us right I guess.

Other things which tend to be a good idea are insurance (which you had anyway) and also its generally good to get know one of your near neighbours a bit and then get them to keep a bit of an eye on the place when your away.
