Also don't give them any money until you have read over the contract properly and signed it. Once you have signed the contract you have a bit of security, but once you have given them money you're at a disadvantage. Also, make sure that you have a copy of the contract. As a student I have done plenty of house hunting, here is what me and my fellow students have found! (And been advised about!) It's easy to overlook something, so in my advice, take a list of things you need to discuss with the landlord/ your students union. Finding a student house: Your student union may have a list of reputable landlord and landladies, if your Union doesn't have a housing/accomodation/advice centre, your council could have a list of landlords letting to students.
