The Maltings is found in a suburb called Basford, which is 2 and a half miles out of Nottingham city centre and the university. In the surrounding areas there are about 5 pubs,an indian and chinese take-away,a laundrette,a newsagents and a few beauty/hairdressing salons which pretty much gives a student what they would want, without having to go in the city centre. To get the city you would have to take a bus ride into the the city, or get dropped off nearby the university. The bus ride costs about 50p return, although you can get a terms buspass when you get to the university. The bus stop is literally a footstep away from the halls which is quite convenient, but the buses stop at about 11:00, so after a long night out you could choose from a taxi, or if you are female you could get the womens minibus which can go to each residence. The residence offers accomodation for about 266 male and female students. The halls are formed to a flat structure, which are shared by 5 - 10 students. Most flats have two showers and two toilets to be shared between the residents. Also the flats all have their own kitchen with fridge and freezer, toaster, iron and ironing board, lockable cupboards for each resident, hob, oven and a microwave. In each building that forms the residence(there are two!)there is a laundrette with two washers and two dryers, if you go and it's full you can always pop across to the other building to see if there is space. Nearby to the laundrette there is a common room, it consists of a room with chairs around the edge and a tv in the corner, to be honest it looks slightly like a doctors waiting room, so if your scared of them i wouldn't advise going in here too many times. It's good if you are waiting for your washing and your bored as you can just pop across and watch tv while you wait. Outside of one of the buildings is a courtyard with a sculpture that kinda looks like some weird DNA structure, it has a few benches
around it.There are plenty of bike racks if you fancy biking into uni, although it's apparently safer to put them around the back as the racks around the front are very near to the front gate. The actual bedroom size is quite impressive , even when one side of the maltings has slightly smaller rooms than the other. Inside the rooms you get a bed,a wardrobe (with inbuilt shelves and hanging rack),a desk with two shelves over head,a deskchair, a sink with overhead mirror and tube light,a radiotor window and notice board. There is quite a lot of cupboard space in and around the room, you can also store stuff underneath the bed if you need to. I havn't stayed at the Maltings so i can't tell you much about the atmosphere , but i've been able to have a look around and to see how things work there. It's apparently one of the more social residences and Nottingham's a very friendly city, so you'll be sure to have fun!
