Victoria Halls Student Accomodation
Author Name: An unhappy resident
Advantages: En-Suite bathroom
Disadvantages: High fines, no customer service, awful management.
Victoria Halls is terrible, just terrible. I honestly couldn't give this company a low enough rating.
Before writing this review I checked out some others and some of the complaints (high fines, useless management, etc.) are completely true. It feels like living in a prison when at any point a "caretaker", Victoria Halls' resident money makers, can come in and fine you £5 for having a carrier bag on the floor.
Personally I have been fined £30 for propping open a fire door. £15 for the fine and £15 for a totally preposterous administration fee! Oh yes! All the fines come with an administration fee which there is no way of avoiding!!
If you are a milionaire then you will love Victoria Halls. If you are a 21 year old student who has worked three years to earn the money to be able to come to uni, like myself, then go elsewhere!
When it come to the second find for propping a door open I refused to pay. Two reasons; 1. Believe it or not, the door wasn't actually propped open. 2. I can't afford to burn £30. This decision was probably the worst of my life. You cannot imagine the hastle Victoria Halls has caused me coming up to exams with all the letters I'm having to write them. I'm spending about 20% of my time I should be revising, writing damn letters. The responses I have received are along the lines of, "...you're putting peoples lives at extreme risk..." and "...let me explain the intricate details of fire doors..." regardless that they have no evidence of the door being propped open. Very rude and very insulting considering most of the fire doors in the building do not even close properly.
All of the students living here are well aware of these faults but the management seem to turn a blind eye. I guess making money from fire doors is better than paying to fix them.
Apologies for rambling but if there are any new students heading to Newcastle soon then great! It's an amazing city, you'll not have more fun elsewhere. Just steer clear of Victoria Halls. Please, please don't come here. You'll make more friends, have a better time and spend less at Ricky Road, Castle Leazes or Windsor Terrace. I even hear Henderson Hall is quite good.
Victoria Halls are theives and only out to get your money. Like others have said, they're an independant company and have few ties to the university, please keep this in mind when deciding your accomodation!
Summary: Think twice, oh for the love of God, please think twice.
