Halls Of Residence At The University Of York ... went to York University for a year, from October 2002 to October 2003 (when I decided to take a gap year that I am yet to return from). I can honestly say that when I saw my halls for the first time I wanted to run away and never return. I was placed in Goodricke D block. It is probably the worst accommodation on campus (rivalled only by Goodricke C block which is also a dump) and could well be the worst accommodation in the country. The block is made of breeze blocks and no attempt has been made to diguse this. The rooms are the size of cells. there is (just) enough space for a single bed, a desk, a sink and a bizarrely position wardrobe. There is not enough ro... Accommodation in general ... Ok.. I have to say, I am spending my first year at Uni of Sheffield living in self catered flats - Broad Lane Court to be precise - and I am struggling to pick fault with them. Granted, they are not at the height of luxury, but i think if you are living in halls you have to expect quite basic living conditions. However, although the walls and stuff may seem a little sparse at first, its nothing a few posters and photos won t sort out. The rooms are mostly identical, fairly spacious, 6 rooms in each flat, one of which is slightly larger and en suite. Halls Of Residence At The University Of York ... really love York uni, but its accommodation is not its selling point. Halls at York fall into two very distinct categories: dump Prisoner Cell Block H next to a couple of classy apartments and it gives you a taste of the campus. Unfortunately there are millions of prisoner blocks and relatively few nice new blocks. A couple of years ago they introduced differential rates for rent: so the good news is that you will pay a less if you end up in an economy room instead of a nice en-suite (at the moment it ranges from £55.65 to £72.45 per week which includes lighting, heating and cleaning) .
