Hasbro Star Wars Lando Calrissian Figure
by Siibillam-Law
Lando Calrissian was always a fan favourite in the Star Wars saga. Han's old friend from way back when, it was him that Han won the Millenium Falcon from. We're introduced to him in The Empire Strikes Back and at the beginning, we question where his loyalties lie. However, in the Return of the Jedi, he comes through for Han and helps the ... Rebel Alliance take down the Empire.
Hasbro released a few Landos in their time, and this one features him not in his usual Bespin blue suit and cape, but instead what we see him like in Return of the Jedi, wearing smuggler gear, like his good friend Han often wears.
His face, made to look like Billy Dee Williams in his portrayal, looks great and as suave as you would expect, with a cool expression and slicked back hair.
The body is pretty poseable and has a fair few articulated joints. His clothes have been well made too and sports a space cowboy kind of look, with his waistcoat, jeans and holster. He comes with a blaster accessory, too as well as one of those collectible coins.
All in all, the Lando figure is on par with the rest of the Star Wars figures. It's exactly what you expect, with no more but no less, really. It looks good, nicely poseable and a great addition to a collection, or for a kid to replay out all the best scenes from his favourite film. Read the complete review |

Hasbro Star Wars Clone Wars Jar Jar Binks Figure
by Siibillam-Law
Oh, hey, it's Jar Jar Binks, everyone's least favourite Star Wars character and bizarrely hilarious racial stereotype.
He had a huge part in The Phantom Menace where he bafflingly was made general (but then again everyone is made general in the Star Wars universe) and then a Senator, somehow. He had minor roles in the next ... two Star Wars films, which was a huge relief, but the character made a much bigger return to screen in the Clone Wars films and TV, where he was rendered in CGI (ha ha ha) and thrown in.
Now Jar Jar's appearance in the Clone Wars wasn't as dreadful as all that, but I can't tell whether or not it was because, as the film was marketed for kids (and made as a cartoon) rather the longer term Star Wars fans, he fit right in, or maybe it was because the film was so bad to begin with, Jar Jar couldn't have made it any worse.
Whatever the reason, he seemed to be a lot better in Clone Wars. And, like all the other characters, there was an action figure released of him.
The model is based on the CG data of the model of the series and its sculpted and shaped to look just like it. I admit it is pretty well done and, of all the Clone Wars figures, looks the best. His eyes gawp at you in their typical way and he has a bit of a gormless expression. He appears thinner and lankier than he did in Phantom Menace, but that's more a stylistic art decision than anything, and the model reflect that.
His clothes are similar to his Phantom Menace ones, but altered, like the ones in Clone Wars, decorated with purple, silver and gold. He also wears similar purple and silver gloves. The painting and design work on both him and the clothes are pretty good. He wears a rough cloth cape and hood.
All in all, the model is pretty good and one of the better Jar Jars out there. While mot of the characters I think looked awful in the Clone Wars films, Jar Jar was the only one who seemed to have improved, and that makes the model that much better. Read the complete review |

Hasbro Star Wars Legacy Collection Emporer Palpatine Figure
by Siibillam-Law
Hasbro's new Legacy Collection, released a couple of years ago, was a set of the major Star Wars characters from every film, all redone with high quality modeling and painting. This wave, which consisted of characters from the Empire Strikes Back. Here we have the galaxy's most feared being - the only person more deadly than Vader ... himself - the great and terrifying Emperor Palpatine.
Palpatine was introduced a simple Senator in the first few films, before coming into power as Chancellor, seducing Anakin into the dark side before becoming the leader of the Empire, terrorizing every star system from Dagobah to Tattooine.
The one thing about this figure which kind of gets me is that it doesn't look greatly like Emperor Palpatine as we know him, except perhaps in his cameo in the 2004 re-issue of the Empire Strikes Back. He kind of looks like a melting zombie from a pretty bad horror film. In fact, there's not much of Ian McDiarmid in this. Oh, well.
The figure is pretty jointed with head, shoulder, eblow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle articulation (although a lot of this is hidden within the many folds of his robes).
He is dressed in a long robe and hood made of pretty soft cloth (although the hood is hard plastic). Accessory wise, he comes with a red lightsaber, a walking stick, which I find pretty cool.
He also comes with a body of a protocol droid, the rest of which is found with other figures in the series. I never collected that thing though and have this empty scrap metal of a droid lying about.
All in all, it's not a bad figure. It certainly looks good, just more like a fan art version of Palpatine, and not exactly what you'd expect from the film versions. Read the complete review |
