Hasbro Star Wars Revenge of the Sith Neimoidian Commander
by benlepensive
I wouldn't try pronouncing his name, because even Star Wars fans struggle with this one! The green chap is a character from the newer batch of Star Wars films and can be bought boxed for about six pounds or loose for around two pounds online. He is visually interesting and forms part of the Hasbro figure range of ... figures.
Neimoidian Commander will appeal to collectors because he has a certain charm to him. The character is rare enough to generate interest and also well known enough to generate some recognition which is also important. Made from plastic, the figure stands at around five inches in height and can be used as a toy or as a display piece. The toy has limbs that move, so you can twist the head, bend the arms and also bend the legs.
The costume on this figure is superb with excellent armour plating on the torso, shoulders and knees. The detail on the armour is wonderful and there is a shiny gleam to it which is kind of sensual. It is a pity that one cannot strip off the armour and see what is exposed underneath. I would love to see his green legs.
Facially very engaging, with green scaly skin looking like a cross between a toad and a fish. He calls to mind the Weequay from 'Jedi' and Barada, which is why I adore him so much. As for the accessory, fans will salivate at his beautiful weapon. Not so much a spear or a gun, but a stick of sorts with great detail throughout.
This figure is charming, well made with stiff joints and one of the better aliens in the newer bunch, so I feel he is an essential purchase. Read the complete review |

Mattel He Man Whiplash
by benlepensive
Whiplash is not just something you get after a car accident, it is also a baddie from the cartoon show 'He Man.' Whiplash made his debut in the eighties in the series and was made into an action figure by Mattel. The toy can still be bought loose online for a few pounds. There also exists a revised Whiplash figure, for the new ... generation. He has been brought up to date with some funky new looks and classy new packaging.
Top marks are awarded for the packaging, a really inventive and appealing box with fun graphics that make you want to pick the toy up to begin with and explore more. I love the wall effect round the box which makes it look like each figure is pushing through a broken down castle.
The toy itself is a plastic figure, about five to six inches in height. He can be posed at the head, arms and legs for plenty of movement. The colours scheme echoes the original figure with lime green colours being used for the legs and arms and face and a deeper murkier green for his torso. The body is superb with armour plating on the chest to give him depth and power and a delightful pair of hugging trunks. The trunks have a textured fur effect on them just like the old figure had too.
The new version has better arm definition and the muscles on the leg are crafted more accurately too with protruding bits...yuck! This time around, his weapon is more chunky and less flimsy. The orange spear can be gripped in either hand and has a neat handle to it for precision gripping.
Mattel have produced a fine recreation here with a lovely robust look, tight limbs and a very savage looking face that makes him look even more menacing than ever before. A joyous figure for the fans. Prices will vary around the ten to fifteen pound mark online. Read the complete review |

Hasbro Star Wars Adi Gallia
by benlepensive
The name might not ring any bells but if you re-watch the very first Star Wars film, 'The Phantom Menace,' then you might recognise this character. Adi Gallia holds a prestigious title of being a female Jedi warrior and there are not many of those in the Star Wars galaxy. It was disappointing that her role was not expanded more in the ... films as she could have been very interesting to develop. Nonetheless, she was deemed important enough to be turned into an action figure by Hasbro.
Following on from where Kenner left off, Hasbro have made a delightful and faithful adaption of Adi. A figure which measure somewhere around four to five inches in height and has been made from plastic. The head can moved and you can also get some arm movement. The legs are a little restricted by the costume, but this is not a major issue. Facially accurate, though I feel her skin tone should have been a touch darker. Her delicate feminine features are executed well with a slimline jaw and defined cheekbones.
The outfit that Adi wears is very Jedi esque. Minimal and basic robes with a scruffy look about them suggest she has been in the wars and seen many battles. I do like the rugged look of her cloak, shrouding her in mystery like one of the wise men. Underneath this, her beige tunic reminds me of the cloths that Luke wore in Cloud City. Coupled with a smart pair of brassy coloured boots, she is a true Jedi figure.
The toy comes with a lightsabre, flimsy yet accurately coloured and also a Star Wars figure frame which adds to the value of the package. She will cost about three pounds boxed online and is a pleasing addition to the Jedi universe. Read the complete review |
