Super Mario Bros Action Figure - Luigi
by -michelle- Super Mario Bros Action Figure - Luigi My son has been a big fan of Super Mario Bros for a long time. He decided to start collecting these lovely little figures when he was a lot younger than he is now. Amongst his collection is Luigi, the ever loveable brother of Mario. What he looks like This 5 inch ... tough plastic, brightly coloured figure is adorable. His arms move freely backwards and forwards and his head turns from side to side. I have to say in the time my son has had this Luigi figure the colours have remained crisp and clear and very bright. His boots are brown, blue dungarees with bright yellow buttons, crisp white gloves and his green top all look like new. On his head sits his green hat with the famous L planted slap bang in the middle at the front. He feels lovely to hold and I'm sure the little hands of youngsters would enjoy holding him and playing with him. My reason for buying My son has quite a few of the Mario figures and they all look equally as bright. His initial reason to start collecting them was so he could do some stop motion videos using all the characters, which he has successfully managed to do and upload to You Tube. A lot of his collection of figures he has used for this purpose and because he makes such a good job of them I don't mind buying them for him. He has always looked after everything he has been given whether as gifts or otherwise. Only problem is finding places to put all his different collections. Is he worth it? So overall I would recommend this Luigi figure, he's made of tough stuff and still looks great after a few years lying around my son's bedroom, occasionally appearing in the odd movie made for You Tube and of course played with from time to time. I paid around £8.00 for him and I think he's worth it, I think any Mario and Luigi fan young or old would appreciate him. You will find him for sale at many different places including online stores such as Amazon. Thank you for reading my review which may also appear on other sites. Read the complete review |

Furuta Mini Figure - Penguin Luigi
by broxi3781 I've always tried to go all out with Birthday cakes for my sons. I think Birthdays are such a special day, I really like to have a fancy cake as well. I have taken a look at some very nice birthday cakes from proper bakeries, and I find the prices excessive. You can easily spend £40 or more, and even the off the shelf birthday cakes from ... Tesco will run around £10 - and they taste rotten if you ask me. We've tried a few different ways of making fancy cakes, but after a bit of trial and error. we've found the best results seem to come from a fairly simple cake design, and a few small toys. As an added bonus - the boys have a set of new toys to play with after the cake is cut. Our cake this year was a large sheet cake with plenty of brightly coloured sweets, a small castle from the pound shop with Bowser standing guard over the princess and a series of Mario characters running across the front. We really managed to make it look very much like a scene from a video game. The character I am reviewing is Luigi, as this is my son's favourite. We also have Mario in the same penguin suit as well as a variety of other characters, but I feel it would be too tedious to review them all, and even more tedious on the reader. For those who may be interested - Mario is exactly the same except for red trousers and of course the face. This toy is part of Furuta Mario line. For those unfamiliar with the company - Furuta make chocolate eggs, very much like Kinder. I have given more info on their line of Mario toys in my review on their Urchin figure, so if you would like to know more about these toys, please read my previous review. In short though, these toys are sold separately and in sets - without the eggs - through Amazon and Ebay. Prices can vary widely, but with this being one of the rarer items, you can expect to pay anywhere from £5 to £30 for this on it's own. Needless to say, I would recommend a set instead. The best price I can find at the moment is £26 for a set of 13 from ebay. While this is high, and I'd prefer to wait for a cheaper set as you can pick them up from about £13, I still think it might be worth it for a very special birthday cake. The set at £26 comes from the UK, so you can expect speedy delivery. The cheaper sets are usually from Hong Kong or China which can mean waiting up to 2 months for your items to arrive. This is not a problem for me as I tend to shop well in advance anyway. I have already ordered my items for my youngest son's birthday in August. Of course most people considering this toy will either want it for the children to play with, or as part of a collection. For a Mario collector, this could be a very nice item. It is small, perhaps 2", but the detailing is perfect. This looks as if it it could jumped right out of the New Super Mario Bros game. I do feel the quality of this is such that an adult collector could not ask for anything more. As a toy though, this does have it's faults. I'm sure many of you have put together kinder eggs toys which are packaged in several pieces to make then fit into the egg. This is very much the same, and as a toy, you will find the feet forever falling off, even the head falls off. This is easily fixed with a drop of superglue though. The stand is more of an issue, as my sons usually play with this without the stand. The stand is flimsy, falls apart easily and is easily lost when used as plaything, although I feel it is acceptable just for display purposes. I do feel these are overpriced for what are to me basically Kinder egg toys. But if you wait for a bargain and get them in a set they can be a worthwhile purchase. I do think you'd have to be a bit soft in the head to pay the full £30 this is going for on Amazon. Personally, I would not have thought these worth buying as toys. But my sons would disagree and have saved up and bought a second set. For my purposes though, these were worth every penny. My son says it was the best Birthday cake ever, and just the look on his face made this well worthwhile. Since his Birthday, these have had quite a lot of use as toys as well, so overall I feel that I did get good value for money. Read the complete review |

Furuta Mini Figure - Urchin
by broxi3781 There are some toys everyone loves, others that parents think are wonderful, but the children take no interest in, and still others that children really do love - but parents hate anyway. This toy certainly falls into the last category. Furuta are not really a toy a company. Furuta makes chocolate eggs, very much like Kinder ... eggs here. They do seem to have better toys, but this is still very much like a Kinder egg toy - except that it is a Mario Bros figure. This character is called an urchin, but it is really more like a puffer a fish. It is a purple fish with yellow spikes that puffs up and can be found in Super Mario World, which happens to be one of my sons' very favourite games. This toy is an excellent reproduction of the video game character, but it is very small. If it is is on it's stand, it measures roughly 1.5 inches, but the stand is small flimsy and easily lost. My husband found a few of the stands without toys and didn't think they looked like much so binned them :( I really hate it when he does things like that! I would have just gone out and bought a new one if the price were not so high. For the most part though, these toys get played with without the wee stands. Speaking of price - prepare yourself for a shock. My sons were able to order a set of 10 figures from Hong Kong for only £14 combining saved up pocket money with my oldest son's birthday money. The individual price on these usually runs about £3 - £5 on ebay, but this particular one will cost you a whopping £26.49 on Amazon including postage, and some of the Nintendo figures draw over twice that much. It seems you could make eating chocolate a full time, and very well paying job if you lived in Hong Kong, China, or Japan when these toys came out. My sons love this toy and combine it with others to act out Mario adventures. I like the fact that they are playing something involving imagination, and the youngest comes up with some very detailed stories to go with his play. What I hate about this toy though, is the fact that it is rather sharp. My son has stuck this into his father a few times ( yes terrible I know - I really shouldn't laugh so much) but what I hate about this toy is the fact that it keeps getting lost in my bed when he brings it in for story time. Nothing like waking up with this embedded in your .......... Overall though, I do feel these toys are too expensive for what you get. I did buy a few for a Birthday cake, and the kids have saved up pocket money for the rest. The price though is about the same as for the 6" poseable figures, which in general I feel are better made and better value for money. The problem is they don't have as many characters, especially the less known enemies, but you do need a few bad guys to have fun playing. I would recommend a set of these figures for cake decorating. I will go into more detail on this is my next review, but I don't like repeating myself too much when reviewing two similar items. The results were truly stunning. I also think bought as a set from ebay, they would make a nice decoration on a shelf. But just for toys, I do not really feel they are good value for money. I am still giving this 5 stars though, as my sons clearly disagree with me. They are more than happy to save up pocket money for more sets and they do really enjoy them. Of course I am basing my rating on the price we paid. I'm afraid I think anyone who is willing to pay £26.49 for a single toy out of a chocolate egg must have a great deal more money than sense.
