It was somewhat inevitable that when Matt Smith over as The Doctor that there was going to be a Dalek episode. All of the Doctors had had to face the Daleks at some point, right back in the sixties with Bill Hartnell, through to the freshfaced Smith in his third episode as the timelord. The Daleks are probably the best known Doctor Who baddies. Despite being wiped out a few times, they always return.
When they came back this season, they had clearly had the Gok Wan treatment. They came back glossier, more streamlined and with a much sleeker finish. The Daleks also came out with some new fancy colours. You could literally see the toymakers rubbing their hands as they thought 'right that's the next batch of toys sorted!'
If Dalek Drone was a car he would be a Porsche. He is smart, chic and sexy. Yes Daleks can be all that; this is one guy you wouldn't mind dating. His trademark features are all intact on the toy. A glossy red bodywork with the pepperpot shape. You can wheel him along on his three wheels and also twist the head to rotate fully.
I like the plungers and his stunner, which all Daleks have, but his best feature is the deluxe black rimming which goes around the neck area. This sets him apart from other older Daleks. The vibrant red is glorious and the chunky mounted black dots are still there all over his undercarriage.
The toy is about five inches in height and made pretty well. The only flaw is that the weapons are quite delicate, so be careful they do not snap off. The best bet is to search online auction sites to get a cheap version, this is how I pick up mine and you can usually shave a few pounds off the price. Expect to pay around the ten pound mark though for a boxed Drone figure. As he is new the price is still high, so give it a year and the price should come down a little.
