My children were spoilt rotten last Christmas, and one of the lovely sets they were bought as a gift was this Imaginext space station, available on amazon for £16.99 usually, although i notice that it is currently £15.25.
The imaginext range is from fisher price/mattel, and designed to encourage imaginative play for 3-8 year olds. They make fire stations, pirate ships, space sets and a full range of toy story merchandise. We own all of the sets apart from the pirate ship, and have found that they are well made, well designed, and very popular not just with our own children, but also any visiting friends and family too.
Some of the sets cost quite a bit, around the £35-40 mark, so it is nice to see that there are some sets available that are substantially cheaper, but also of the same quality. As usual this set is characterised by the addition of a blue disc with footprints in it. When the child playing with the set stands a figure in the holes, they can turn the disc round and interact with the toy. The larger sets usually have a number of these. This one has one blue disc, and also a yellow one which makes part of the space station move.
I think this is a bargainous set at this price as it comes with 2 figures with space breathing apparatus. There are 2 umbilical cords (pipes to help the astronauts explore) which are the blue poles on the front of the set. These have a disc at the bottom so you can spin the astronauts round to fully see the surroundings. You also get a little blue space pod for surface exploration.
Entry to the station is by turning the disc to open the air tight door, and then there are two areas of the space station for the astronauts to use. The ground floor has a bed which looks a bit like a hospital gurney for the astronaut to rest/be checked and then upstairs they can rotate the yellow sections if the alien is coming to attack you.
OVerall, highly recommended as being good value for money, and a well designed and durable toy for encouraging 3-8 year olds to interact imaginatively. If your little one like space, then they will like this set. Great fun.
