You know that noise Vader makes 'Hoeeeee purrrrr,' well he was in his element when he was inside his meditation chamber. One of my favourite moments in the Star Wars films, when the chamber pops open and Vader is disturbed by an imperial Officer. Vader looks positively unimpressed at having been disturbed.
So what made this scene so fascinating? I think for me it was the fact that the dark lord was sitting in something very private and was doing something secret. You don't get to see what he does in this chamber and that made the scene all the more intriguing. I would put it on a par with Han in carbonite or Luke in his floatation tank in Empire for excitingness.
The Hasbro toy marks the 500th action figure release and is rightly a special occasion. A limited edition offer, what we have here is Vader inside the chamber. The chamber is open so you can just what is happening inside. Some excellent detail to the side panels and the overall craft of it really enhance the authenticity. Despite a flimsy base, the shape of the chamber is spot on and the drop down helmet action is wonderful. Obviously Vader sits in the centre of this chamber and is the focal point of the set. Vader himself is a must have figure, expertly articulated with stunning detail on his torso. It is a vast improvement on the older Kenner figure.
The chamber provides a great set piece for play scenarios and you can now have Vader go off and enjoy some 'me time' when things are getting too much for him. I guess you could put someone else in the chamber too for variety.
The set retails for about ten pounds, is well made and a must for hardcore collectors. Looks good on shelves and represents good play value too
