If you have watched 'Return Of The Jedi' then you be familiar with the infamous Skiff scene. This is the part of the film where Luke and Han are sent to their deaths...to the dreaded Salaac Pit. Nature intervenes and the pair escape with the aid of comrades Chewbacca and Lando. The Skiffs are large transporter vehicles which hover over the sand dunes. They are rather like airbourne hovercrafts, crossed with pirate ships. Kenner produced a toy skiff back in the eighties, which could hold a single figure and had a small plank, which the enemy would be made to walk. Hasbro have gone one better with a larger version for the new generation. The dimensions of this Skiff are 6.7 x 8.9 x 22.9 cm, making it relatively substantial. It comes with a stand, so you can mount it and display it for all to inspect. You can also detach it and play with it of course. The design work is pleasing, with lovely paneling around the edges and superbly shaped ends. The nice pointy tip has been crafted especially well. Flanked with some rear end gun turrets, the Skiff is ready for battle and would support a figure or two if you crammed them together. Personally, I would love to see a massive full sized skiff which can hold hundreds of figures; like Jabba's Sail Barge. The colour scheme is accurate, with soft rustic browns used on the bodywork. I would not deem this an essential purchase, as for me it is not the most interesting vehicle, but it will still please avid collectors. The price can vary, but to buy as new you will be looking at three pounds or upwards. Why not stage a battle over the Salaac and have Chewbacca guarding the edges like he does in the movie.
