In the good old days of Star Wars action figures, fans had to make do with a Darth Vader without a removable helmet. No matter how much yanking of the head you did, you simply could not see what his face looked like underneath. A release of an older version of Anakin by toymaker Kenner did something to alleviate the anguish, though this was an old man Anakin. It did not capture his part man/part Vader guise, which is what fans were really yearning for. Fast forward about twenty odd years and Hasbro have hit the nail on the head, well almost. This figure has Anakin as he begins his descent into being Darth Vader. Gone are the beige fatigues which we saw him wear as a boy, he is now kitted in the gloomy black and the cape is already in place. The figure sports a head which bears a good likeness to the filmic version. He looks full of anguish and is tense and poised for action. The hairline is done well with a strong colour match. Excellent detail on the chest suggests this Anakin has been working out, with beefy looking arms and thighs, his transformation into Vader is almost there. The figure can be posed at the arms, legs and head, meaning he is ready for a variety of play scenarios. Anakin comes with a blue lightsabre which can be gripped in his hand. The weapon is sturdy and is of accurate size. There is splendid detail on his cloak, which has a very shapely mould, suggesting movement and action. Anakin will cost you about seven pounds and is a fine collector's piece. Hasbro have of course also made a Darth Vader with a removable helmet, so you can buy him in various stages of his transformation.
