My son went through a toy story phase after he was handed down a buzz light year toy. He was four at the time. We showed him the films and read the books and he was deserate for us to buy him the woody to go with his buzz. I was reluctant to spend so much on a toy which didn't seem to do much but decided to buy it after seeing how much enjoynment he got out of playing with Buzz.
This Woody costs around £25-30 and can be bought from all the usual toy shops and websites. It is approximately 35cm tall and made of soft material with a plastic head, hands, boots and a removable hat. It has a short pull cord coming out of Woody's back which activates various phrases from the toy story films.
Good points: The toy is very true to the film character in every detail and has been made so that it moves (flops) around in just the same manner.
Bad points: The only thing is does is say a few phrases. This soon gets annoyihg for me listening to them over and over and boring for my son. Of course Woody cant even stand or sit up to be played with which rather limits the options. The hat was inevitably lost pretty quickly and Woody was treasured but not really played with.
Summary: This toy is well-made but offers limited play possibilities. If your child is a toy story fan, i would recommend buying the buzz lightyear figure which speaks, shoots lasers and has lots of moving parts over this woody toy.
Toy Story - The latest craze for 2010.
Oh where do I begin!! I think I have one of the biggest Toy Story Fans in the Uk. My little 'Buzz Lightyear' regularly reels off the 'To infinity and beyond' phrase. Having seen all the films and even costing me a fortune to take him to Disneyland Paris to see the new Buzz attraction he wants everything he sees that's branded with the Toy Story Logo. Not content with the rocket pack Buzz Lightyear that cost nearly 50 pound I had to go out and buy him the matching Woody!
He looks just like Woody in the films with a mix of soft body material and plastic hands and face, oh and not forgetting his rubber brown cowboy hat and guitar.
As he is like a doll, he is easier to move about and in our case throw about the living room. Compared to Buzz who's quite rigid and heavy for a younger child- Woody doesn't disappoint!! He's nice and floppy.
There is a string attached to his back that has a plastic loop tied to it for ease of pull. You just give it a tug and he comes out with his most popular phrases from the movie.
Definite must have for all die-hard Toy Story Fans and is made to last!!
Toy Story. An instant classic since the day it was released way back in 1995. And two sequels later, it's become one of the best and faultless trilogies around - a hard feat to achieve, especially with so many years between each film.
And who didn't, upon watching the films, wish they had the toys that Andy did? Who wouldn't have loved to play with Buzz and Woody, Slinky, Rex and Mr Potato Head?
This Hasbro Toy Story and Beyond Pull String Woody is probably the closest you can get to the real thing without having to suck yourself into the television.
Like the Woody from the films, this one has a plush soft toy body, with solid plastic hands and face. His clothing is stitched just right and the materials are just what you imagined them to be in the films. His head is well modeled too, although I can't help but see this incarnation of the doll as strangely fat compared to the one in the film, but maybe it's just me.
Pull his string and, just like in the film, he spouts out some of his most popular catchphrases. As well as all of that, he comes with two accessories - his removable cowboy hat and the guitar we see him with in Woody's Roundup, which can be positioned on him to make it look like he's playing it.
The doll is of a great quality and would definitely last, even with loads of playtime with the kids. A great gift for your kids, who'll love him like Andy does.
Having seen Toy Story on numerous occasions through the years, and seeing how much my nephews enjoyed it when they were younger I couldn't wait to let my little boy watch it. As I thought he would he fell in love with it, to this day we still have to watch it every night before bed or he won't settle. I immediately wanted to buy him all the characters, even though it was a few months away I decided I would get him them for Christmas.
I purchased Sheriff Woody from the toy catalogue at the Post Office a village away from where I live. At £29.99 I did think it was slightly over priced but then that's what to expect when buying movie or cartoon character associated toys. And when I think about it I think that's the price my sister paid for my nephew's Woody toy when Toy Story first appeared on our screens over 10 years ago.
Woody came in Toy Story styled oblong shaped box, with a clear panel on the front so you could see the sheriff inside and a small round circle cut out of the back, just big enough for the loop of Woody's drawstring to fit through for him to be tested. Upon testing Woody I was very very disappointed as the voice that spoke was not that of Tom Hanks, as it is in the movie. It sounds a lot older and deeper. First instincts I thought I had been conned but in fact it had the Mattel. Inc trademark on the tag so had no other choice but to believe it's an original.
When you pull Sheriff Woody's drawstring on his back he says one of 7 phrases, these include
*'Reach for the sky',
*'Your my favourite deputy',
*'There's a snake in my boot',
*'somebody's poisoned the water hole',
*'Yehaaa giddiup partner' &
*'This town ain't big enough for the two of us',
Which are the phrases he uses in both films.
He is dressed exactly as he is in the film with his blue denim jeans, yellow shirt with red horizontal and vertical lines, then over the shirt he has his cow print waist coat that has his gold sheriff badge on the front left breast part of the waistcoat. He also wears his brown gun holster belt with the yellow buckle and also his red neck bandana. Then lastly there's his brown hat which now is rubber, whereas it used to be a hard plastic material. I find the rubber hat so much better as it actually clings to the head so is less likely to get lost.
This toy is a very good buy, my son has had hours of fun pretending to re-create the movie along with his other collection of Toy Story characters. What I also found my son liked about this was that Woody had ANDY on the foot which made it so much more realistic.
Thank You for reading.
The Woody action figure is taken from the popular Disney Animated Film Toy Story. Made by Hasbro with a recommended children's age of 4+ Woody is a fabric toy figure. He comes with a guitar, his famous hat and a pull string on the back that when pulled says famous Woody phrases..
A definite must for any Toy Story fans, the perfect toy to accompany the Buzz Lightyear figure (see my other reviews). Woody is a fabric cowboy figure, he has solid brown cowboy boots, a detachable hat, solid hands and face and a guitar that can positioned to look like he is playing it. He has a pull string on the back just like the character in the film and when pulled he actually says the quotes from the film including "Theres a snake in my boot" "You're my favourite deputy" and "Reach for the sky", the original Woody didn't say these quotes so I think this is the better one to buy. He has the name Andy written on the sole of his boot and his voice is either the same as the one from the film (Tom Hanks) or sounds just like it.
My son got this for his 3rd birthday after getting the Buzz Lightyear action figure for Christmas. Although it's recommended for 4+ just like the Buzz Lightyear toy he loved playing with it and has never hurt himself with it. He loved using Woody in his games and re-creating the Toy Story scenes with Buzz and Woody, we ended up having to buy him the Bullseye horse too so Woody could ride on him.
I did worry about my son breaking the pull string but this has proven to be very resilient and after a year of playing is still working and as good as when he first had it. Woody is not very easy to keep clean. He is very realistic and although expensive, worth every penny.
My first review, so here goes....
The Toy Story movies are absolute classics with the original movie being my favorite. The characters are so incredibly appealing to children that once their hooked, their hooked for months and months. So, naturally when my older boy saw the movie, he wanted a Woody doll all to himself and who was I to argue.
So the search began for Woody and the natural place to start looking was of course the Disney Store. There's a store in East Kilbride Shopping Centre and another one at St Enoch Centre in Glasgow both of which of course have an abundance of Disney themed toys. Toy Story has clearly stood the test of time and as expected I found lots of toys associated with the movie, however alas Woody seemed to allude me. Yes there was plenty of miniature versions of Woody and his sidekick Buzz Lightyear but the pull string doll that my little boy so desperately wanted was nowhere to be seen.
After 10 minutes of tears and another 10 minutes of me trying to bribe him with Wall-E alternative's we decided to continue our search which led us to the old chestnut that is Woolworths. We walked up and down the isles searching high and low when at last we stumbled across Pull String Woody and not only that, he had guitar, a working lantern and of course, a hat.
So for the surprisingly low price of £8.99 my little boy had his very own Woody doll.
The doll is made of very high quality material and is in relative proportion to how you perceive the character to be in the movie, in fact more so than any other variation of the doll that I have seen. Woody arrives packaged in a very attractive box....in fact I would probably like to buy one of these, keep it for years and never remove him from the box, but where's the fun in that?
The torso section of woody contains the voice box which the pull string is attached to. When you pull the string he will say "There's a snake in my boot", "Lets set up camp" and "Cowboys aren't afraid of the dark but you'd better leave the lantern on anyway". My little boy loves this toy, in fact he adores it and is like a proper little Andy from the movie, acting out all the scenes. I of course have been delegated the task of singing the songs from the movie.
The lantern that comes with the doll actually lights up and has a small LED that lights up when you press a small button at the top. This lantern creates enough light to allow you to read a story in the dark at bed-time and I often get Woody involved in this....well if he's going to run about my house when I'm not there, then he needs to be doing something for his keep!!!
His guitar also has a few strings on it and a shoulder strap that helps it to attach to Woody when required. My little boy hasn't bothered too much with the guitar to be honest.
The quality of the stitching is very good and I'm happy to say that nothing has fallen to bits even though he's had some real abuse since purchase. Woody's head is made of hard plastic and is attached to the body very firmly or at least its never fell off. What I would say about the head is that Woody's nose is very sharp and pointy and my little boy has hit this off his own head while swinging it about causing him to cry a bit.
Overall I would say that this is a must for any Toy Story fan big or small. It's a fabulous toy to have sitting on a shelf in you child's room and has brought my own little boy hours of entertainment and a few moments of tranquility for me. Well us working mums need a coffee some time!!
