My eldest daughetr was recently five and this definitely seems to be the age when little girls start collecting Polly Pocket toys. I had tried to steer clear of these in the past mainly because I knew that there are many many small pieces that can easily become lost but for her birthday she did receive her first Polly Pocket toy - the ultimate Styling Playset. As this involves having a small doll which you can dress up in numerous different outfits this really is right up my dughter's street! In fact, she has now fallen in love with Polly Pocket! The playset comes in quite a large box and comprises lots of different things which I will go on to describe. As is often the case these days though, it did take a long time to actually get into the set as everything is well and truly fixed in place either with molded plastic or lots of those very annoying twisty wire things! Twenty minutes later, with one very impatient daughter getting more and more fed up, we finally managed to get all the pieces out! This set has everything you would find in a very small upmarket fashion boutique. There is a fold out fashion screen with lots of hangers to keep all the clothes on. There is also a small fold out counter and a cash register. There's a mannequin dummy but as all of these things are quite small and fragile my daughters managed to break this within the first thirty minutes so we are waiting for Daddy to fix it with some super glue. Polly Pocket herself is only about eight centimetres tall with beautiful long blonde hair. In the boutique there are over a dozen different items of clothing for her to dress up in. All these clothes are quite fascinating as they are very rubbery and flexible. Because of this they can all go on Polly Pocket with a certain amount of ease for a five year old. However, my three year old has a lot of difficulty dressing the doll but then it's not really aimed at her! (Even though the manufacturer's guidnce says thirty six months and above, I really think it's better for older children) There is a good range of smart and casual clothes and there are dresses, skirts, trousers, tops, jackets, bags, shoes and boots. My daughter thinks they are all very glamorous and loves dressing her Polly Pocket up and making up stories about where she is going. It seems to me to be a very well thought out set and certainly is giving my daughter hours of enjoyment and also feeding her imagination with lots of stories. I do have one or two problems with this set though. The first I have already alluded too in the fact that as everything is so small that they are more flimsy and liable to break. The manequin is already broken (but mendable I think) and I noticed the other day when my daughter was trying to put a boot on the doll, that the foot actually went through the rubber. Somehow, I don't think it's going to stand up to a lot of wear and tear! That is of course if we manage to keep them all anyway as everything is so small it is so easily lost. Looking through all that we have two weeks later I can already see we are missing a few items. The set does not come with a container so I did get a small sandwich box from Sainsburys to keep all the bits in, but when you are only five it's not your top priority to put everything away! Never mind - it will be fun while it lasts! The RRP for this toy set is £19.99 but at the moment it can be bought from Amazon for £15.19. I think both of these prices are a bit on the high side but if you can find it on sale somewhere it's worth buying for the enjoyment factor. My daughter would definitely agree with that and is now on a quest to discover what other Polly Pockets are out there too!
