As I am a fan (and somewhat a collector) of dragons it is no wonder dinosaurs are a part of my "toy family" too (I really am a big child). I think these big guys were on of the reasons the myth of dragons began. I imagine someone in the time before dragons found dinosaur fossils and from that created dragons...
Funny though, my collection of dinosaurs only consists of Allosaurus, T-rex, Raptor and another sharp teeth and claw dinosaur (that I have no clue which species it is)... There is something about carnivores I think, they looked cooler.
It is hard to talk about detail and resemblance to the real thing when it comes to this figurine, since the actual look is still a mystery for us, we know how they should look but can't say it for certain, especially when it comes to colour - I personally would like to believe they were pink hehe -now imagine a big nasty pink T-rex! Well back to the point - the body of this one looks really masculine but relaxed. The pose of the figure suggests that the dinosaur is just minding his own business, not being all predatory - the facial expression quite calm.
The figure in general is well made with a lot of detail. I really like how the skin is made, very lizard like and I really like how the skin around joints is a little bit wrinkled, I think this really adds on to the "realistic" look.
The colouring (hand painted) is pretty awesome too, there is much attention on details such as shading and colour blending. The colouring makes it look even more dimensional. As far as colours chosen for this one go I think the selection is quite interesting - this wasp like combination actually looks quite good and natural.
The toy is suitable for children ages 3 plus as stated on Amazon.co.uk, the toy does not come in a box so I can't check it, I checked the manufacturers site and there is no indication of what the age limit is, they only guarantee that product is safe (will not break) and that materials are not harmful since children are top priority. I think though that a 3 year old will be safe with this one, the toy is big (17 cm height) so there is no fear of suffocation and although the claws might look fierce they are not sharp, the end is a bit rounded. The figure won't break if dropped.
Schleich are a German based company that manufacture and produce an astronomical range of action figures and animal toys. They have an extensive range of wild life, farm life, and prehistoric animals as well as a range of action figures for your child to collect.
We already own a few animals from this range and I have been blown away with the quality of them. My partner was an avid fan of dinosaurs and prehistoric life when he was little, so he was eager to start the collection for his son. Roar. As the first Jurassic addiction to our collection of Schleich animals we decided upon the mighty carnivorous predator Allosaurus.
Children love animals, and they are especially fascinated by dinosaurs, these treacherous creatures seem to appeal to toddlers as they are big, scary and powerful. Playing with dinosaurs allows for a greater level of imaginative play, as there are less pre-conceptional ideas as to what exactly they were like and did. These prehistoric creatures will capture the imagination of children who enjoy make-belief play; as dinosaurs no longer exist toddlers will have fun as they go on a Jurassic adventure and get lost in their imaginary world.
My little boy loves playing boisterous games and at the moment his favourite game is pretending to be a monster, he loves to make scary noises. Any toys that promote scary imagery and scary noises are always popular in our house. As dinosaurs are extinct we have no idea what sound an Allosaurus would make, so we have fun creating our own scary sounds for this creature.
This ferocious creature is hand crafted from a solid piece of synthetic material, it has been meticulously hand painted with intricate detail to give it a realist and natural look. As each model is hand painted the colouration will differ with each model, making each toy unique. The colouration is incredible with different shades of brown used throughout to give it definition; it has ridges painted from its neck down to the tip of its tail. This tactile toy is highly textured, all of its features are beautifully crafted, its spine is raised and it has ridges around its joints and under its neck, with all of its body being textured. This large creature is 17cm from its nose to its tail; it looks rather menacing standing on its sturdy hind legs with its tail on the ground. It is equipped with sharp serrated teeth, and claws, and it has raised crests above each eye. Even the underside to this creature is as detailed. So much intricate detail has gone into this creation, it is stunning.
This is an amazingly tactile toy that begs to be played with. My son was delighted when he was presented with this dinosaur; it fits perfectly in his hand. It really captures my son's imagination as he runs around making scary noises with it, since we have had this dinosaur it has become one of his favourite animals to play with. It gets walked along the floors and walls and my little monster isn't scared of this beast as he savages its head and chews on its tail. It has also been submersed in water, which will do no harm as it is solid. My son goes into his own play world with this creature and it is fascinating to watch him. He is quite boisterous and heavy handed, however, this prehistoric creature is tough and can take all the rough play.
This educational toy is safe and durable so there is no risk of any parts breaking off. There are some areas where the paint work has worn away, mainly around its jaw and under its feet; however, this just adds character to it.
Young minds can learn so much from these prehistoric creatures as they play in their imaginary world. Dinosaurs help children to learn through imaginative play. Little ones love to play in a fantasy world where they are in control of what is happening. This toy will also develop fine motor skills, as well as allowing your child to explore and use their imagination.
Initially I thought Schleich toys were expensive, as you are only getting one animal/creature, however, once you see the amazing amount of detail that has gone into each and every one you will realise that you are getting a fantastic toy that is worth every penny. I have bought sets of plastic animals and the quality is just not comparable, so I always come back to the Schleich range. The Schleich range of toys is built to last, so they represent excellent value for money. Each individual animal or figure from the Schleich range is going to set you back by about £5. So to make your own herd of dinosaurs it will be a bit pricey, as there is a vast array of prehistoric creatures and dinosaurs within their range that will tempt you, as each one is incredible.
The manufactures recommended minimum age for this particular toy is 3 years onwards. All of the official Schleich animals are ''CE tested and approved and they bare a label around their foot with a red S on to show they are an official product, these are easily removed.
I paid £4.25 for this beauty. Its price will vary depending on where you buy it. The Schleich range can be found on Amazon, Early Learning Centre, Toys "R" Us, as well as other good toy stores.
