      Cheeky Chimp

During the summer months, we visited Twycross Zoo and for anybody who has been before will know, they have quite a lot of monkeys there which my daughter loved. The next time we went shopping, I said she could pick up some new Schleich animals and this was one that she picked up.
      Price & availability

I picked mine up from Toys R Us where at the time, the has a three for two promotion running. This retails for just under £4 which is inline with the other figures in the range, I do find that the price of Shleich is pretty consistent in most shops (John Lewis, ELC and The Entertainer also sell these).
      The chimpanzee

The chimpanzee measures around 7cm in height and 6cm in length, he is on all fours with his head slightly tilted as if he is looking right at you. All the Schleich animals are hand painted and the attention to detail is always excellent, they have really captured the different shadings in his coat, especially around his hands, feet and face.

Although he is quite small, he weighs about 9g which doesnt sound like a lot, but for a childrens animal, it does feel quite heavy which I think gives it a quality feel. The weight doesn't stop Lauren playing with it though and she can easily pick up and play.
      The Website

Lauren is really into animals, when we were a the Zoo, she would always try to read the information/facts posted about each animal which is great as normally she isnt one for wanting to read. Whenever we buy a new animal, we always visit the website as there is an interesting facts section and she seems fasinated to learn about her new animal (amazingly, she seems to absorb the information too and remember it in months to come).
      Overall

This is definitely another hit with Lauren, she has a big enough collection now that she actually likes to create her own little zoo and let her other small figurines (mainly Sylvanian Families) come to visit, although this is a zoo with a difference as the chimpanzee gives out rides to the visitors.

I would definitely recommend this and it gets 5 out of 5 stars from me.

      Thanks for reading

      another great animal

My daughters have got loads of the Schleich range of animals as they were passed down from my younger sister, most of the animals are in family units and one of the families we have is the Chimps family, in my opinion they are about the ugliest family of these animals.

The animals were originally bought from Mothercare for my sister and you can still buy some of them from there and you can also buy them from Amazon, Amazon have this one in a family unit at the moment so you get Mammy, Daddy and baby Chimp for £8.75 although there is an extra £3.75 for the delivery charge.

Mammy Chimp is a little bit smaller than Daddy Chimp at about 6cms taller and is nearly as wide as tall. The Chimp is sat on her bum with her legs bent up as if she is about to get up but then her arms stretched out and turned upwards as if she is saying "I give up" There is loads of detail on the animal and there are markings for all her fur but her face for all it is detailed it is pretty ugly and certainly not a cute animal.

Both my daughters will not accept that this animal is a Chimp rather than a Monkey which I can understand from my 2 year old but my older daughter is 5 and has seen the different animals in the flesh in the zoo but still insists this is a Monkey. Both girls bounce around with this toy and the Daddy and baby which we also have shouting "oo oo oo" and calling each other Monkey's which I would have to agree with.

The toy is very durable, there is no damage to it at all and it is years old, the paintwork on the toy is still in perfect condition too. The toy is meant for ages 3 and up but like I said my daughter is 2 and she plays with the animals and she loves to play with them and neither myself or my Husband have any issues with her playing with them.

The toys are educational as well as being fun to play with and they are really great value too, we play counting and matching games with the animals or the girls play with them themselves and play roleplay style games. I would recommend all the animals and have bought the girls some more for Christmas presents.
