Parp! That's the sound I am imagining this little chap to be making on his horn. The Smurfs are not as popular as they were in their heyday. They enjoyed a small comeback in the nineties with a top five hit single 'I've Got A Little Puppy' and a big selling album of covers. Suddenly, they were back with a boom..then it all trailed off again. Despite the quiet spell they are currently experiencing, the Smurfs remain popular choices amongst toy collectors, who warm to their interesting characters and fun poses.

Schleich produce a few new Smurfs each year. I have collected Smurfs on and off since I was a kid. This is one of the newer Smurfs and he can be bought online for a mere two to three pounds, making him a great pocket money toy for children.

The figure is made from a plastic resin and is in a fixed pose. The Smurf toy is well made and will only bend with force. He wears his usual hat and has the bright blue body here. Harmony Smurf plays what appears to be a horn, but it could be a trombone. A really succulent golden colour on his instrument gives it authenticity and it is the focal point of the toy. His eyes are shut tight and he is really concentrating on his performance which makes him look very engaged in his music. The good news, you can also get other Smurf who play instruments, meaning you can construct your own band. I also have a chap who plays the drums! These range from older figures from the eighties right up to the newer toys.

The toy might only be an inch in height, but it is a perfect keepsake and would also make a good gift for someone you know who has just passed a music exam.
