Last Christmas I bought my son quite a few action figures from the Harry Potter range as we are both fans of the films and the books and as my son liked to play with his figures I felt he would get some good imaginative play out of a set of the Harry Potter ones. I spent a small fortune really getting together just six of the characters from the films but there is obviously a lot of scope to add many more to that collection as well. One of the figures I bought for him was the Hermione Grainger deathly hallows part two action figure and this is my review of the product.
This figure is made by Tomy and is actually described as a collector's action figure. I have to say that in my experience of these toys the Harry Potter one I bought by a different company comes across much more like a collectable than a toy where as this one comes across as a toy but I can certainly see that it could be collectable too. The figure comes packed in a cardboard backed plastic packaging so that you can see through the plastic to see what the item looks like and I suppose is beneficial for a collector as they would leave it in the packaging to keep it in mint condition. The figure is a licensed product and the branding on the pack makes sure that you are aware of this.
Hermione is a five inch action figure and so she is the same size as all of the other ones my son has other than the Harry Potter figure made by a different company. The figure does look quite like Hermione and I think it is quite impressive how they have got the detail on these figures as they aren't massive. Hermione is dressed casually in brown boots, dark blue jeans, a purple zip up hooded top and an open denim jacket. The detail on the plastic is great and shows zips, pockets and buttons which I think is great. Her hair is tied in a loose plait and the facial details are pretty good too on this one.
On this figure you can bend and twist her knees, arms and elbows too. Her head moves from side to side but there isn't much flexibility in going up and down. My son has had no issues when playing with this figure to get it to act how he wants it to do and he likes to use Hermione in his imaginative play quite a lot as she is obviously a key character in the films. For some reason Hermione is less steady on her feet than the Lord Voldemort figure and so she will fall down more often than not unless she is being held but this isn't something that seems to have fazed my son.
As with the other figures this action figure does come with some accessories and in Hermione's case you get her wand, the tales of Beedle the bard book and her little bag. These accessories are pretty small and would be lost easily if proper care not taken to look after them. My son has a smaller box within his figure box which he stores all the wands and things when they are not being played with and this helps keep them safe. A lot of the time he forgets to get the accessories out as he plays as they are so small and so they are not key to imaginative play but of course they will be key to selling them on at a later date should you want to.
I would recommend this Tomy Hermione Grainger action figure to fans of the Harry Potter series or perhaps people interested in collection memorabilia from the franchise as I think this is a good detailed toy, which is playable but also nice as a collector's item too. From memory it cost me around eight pounds when I bought it last year but the current selling price on amazon is £18.99 from four independent sellers should you be interested.
