Zingzillas Posable Figure Panzee
Advantages: Looks realistic, fans will like it
Disadvantages: Limited Play Options, Expensive, Low Quality, Only One Accessory
This Panzee posable figure retails for around £4.99, which I happen to think is too much for what this item offers in terms of play value, as well as the obvious value for money. You can pick it up cheaper in Tesco most of the time (£3.75 last time I looked) by using your clubcard vouchers doubled up at the moment. I think you could possibly also get it a bit cheaper from Asda or by using one of the many Argos deals that appear in the run up to Christmas. I definitely would feel cheated if I'd paid a full £5 for this though!
The figure is based on the character Panzee who appears in the popular CBeebies music show Zingzillas. The show is all about a group of apes who make music together, and it seems to aimed at pre-schoolers aged between 4 and 6 as opposed to toddlers. With that in mind, this toy contains small parts (the tambourine in this particular character's case) and is not suitable for children under the age of three years old.
The details on the character are fairly realistic, and I think most if not all Zingzilla fans would instantly recognise which character this figure is supposed to be. The joints are indeed posable, though I think it's a shame they've moulded the hands and feet a little crudely (a.k.a. 'on the cheap'). You can just about thrust the tabourine into Drum's hand, but you make use of the flexibility of the plastic to achieve this and it takes a good minute for a small child to manage unaided. There are no other accessories included, and it's probably just as well in light of the difficulties some will have in getting that single tambourine in and out!
The feet mean that the figure will just about stay upright, if Panzee is posed in just the right manner. If you don't have her back and arms properly aligned to within a very small scope, she will fall straight over though. It's only her knees and arms that move really, and for £5 per figure, I think they could have done a little more (eg made the ankles and wrists posable too).
This is a good looking little figure which fans of the show will want and enjoy opening as a present. It's not one that will likely stand the test of time though, or get played with a lot. The play options are limited due to the lack of accessories and limited posable joints, as well as the difficulties children will have getting the figure to stand up and hold her tambourine. Your fiver would be better spent on a little Playmobil set in my opinion. At least then you'd get a good quality figure with lots of accessories and a range of play options to explore. Playmobil don't have their own CBeebies television show to make youngsters go crazy though do they?! If your child is really set on owning this, then great, buy it, it's not the worst toy you'll ever come across. But if they're not too bothered then I would definitely look at something else.
