Advantages: Not so bad airline

Disadvantages: Air conditioning in summer

I have used Air france few times, both on TransAtlantic flights and European ones.

I have worked in Paris for 2 years and therefore always used Air france for flights either out or into Paris.

So. First the good things.
Check in is normally dealt with in a timely fashion, although, compared to BA, you are more likely to queue, even if you fly in business. All staff spoke good English, the reviews quoting Air France staff as non speaking proper English are probably written by people who speak English only and therefore assume that anyone who is not up to their level is not good, or they have been written by someone...who has never used Air France!

Most of the airplane are very recent, however, on the route to Bruxelles we had once a plane, which looked a tad out of date.

Seat space is not too much, while the seats are very comfortable. The table for the food is not obstrusive.

On international flights, at least in business, you can have very good food. I had a starter, egenrally Ham, a main dish, including a choice of sea food, and some small pieces of cheese to finish the job off. It is no guess that the wine is also of good quality, I normally go for the white ones, whihc are lighter. Ah, there is also a cake to keep your mouth sweet.

French film have a good reputation, and on long flights you always have an English film and a french one, the French one with subtitles in English, but you may have problems reading them properly. At least I had!

Now the bad things. The lounge at Charles De Gaulle would not rival the BA one at Heathrow, given the size of Air France, more could be done in terms of services they provide premium customers with.

If you pay with your own money, Air France is not cheap, but this may be due in part to the fact that flights originating from France are overall more expensive than those departing from UK.

On one occasion, going to Geneve, we were left on the de
parting strip for nearly one hour due to problems with air control. It was summer, and the air conditioning could not be felt, it was a fairly upsetting experience, in fact one of the worst flights I ever had, and I Think we are already well above 100.

Overall, compared to toher carriers, Air France still is above average in my view. It covers many links to French countries in Africa, where BA does not fly, or fly less frequently.

I am off on a flight with Air France soon to Bangkok. I have never flown with them before but I was given the tickets at work and so I am excited to try them out. I must admit, over here they don't have a fantastic reputation but that could be more to do with the long-standing dislike the British traditionally have for all things French. Some people I know have flown them and then only want to fly Air France after that (business class) and I have heard that their business class is very comfortable. Many thanks for the confidence boost for my upcoming trip!

Re: Question on Kalms op...I find it helps to build them up in your system during the day to help sleep...if I've been calmer during the day I can usually sleep better. Hope this helps. :)
