Advantages: Cheap, Good Food, Friendly staff (Onboard and Check in)

Disadvantages: Old plane, On board entertainment could be better

I flew with Air India Economy Class last week from Los Angeles to Frankfurt. Arriving at the check-in desk at LAX, the desk opened earlier than expected. The staff at the desk was friendly and efficient.

The airplane was an old 747. I read in their magazine that they are currently upgrading the interior in these planes, but this definitely wasn't done yet. The plane left on time. First round of drinks is free, and for dinner you have a choice between a "mild" dish or a more spicier Indian dish. A breakfast box is served 2 hours prior to landing.

On board entertainment is ok, but nothing spectacular.

The return flight to Los Angeles was even better. Check in the same friendly way as on LAX, and the woman behind the counter even managed to get me a good seat (at one of the EXITs).

Unfortunately, the movies shown on the return flight are the same as shown on the outbound. Food was excellent again, and the stewardesses were very friendly.

So my overall conclusion:
I had a good experience with Air India, and you can't beat the price; I booked 4 days prior to my flight and paid U.S. $ 685.- for it (incl.tax).

Summary: I would fly this airline again
