Advantages: relatively cheap

Disadvantages: cramped, late, dirty

I took Air India to New York from Heathrow last year.

The plane was three hours late (not an uncommon experience, apparently) as it was late leaving India where many passengers had already embarked.

Although it was allegedly cleaned during its refuelling at Heathrow, when I got on it looked, and smelled, like an Indian restaurant after a friday night visit by a group of drunken football hooligans.

The staff were rude, and very reluctant to serve drinks, it was 7 hours of cramped, boring hell!

Despite the good price, I will remember in future that you get what you pay for, and I will stick to BA, AA, Virgin Atlantic etc when going to the USA.
