One of my favourite airlines (Air Mauritius)

Disadvantages: The food could have been better

I travelled by Air Mauritius twice: Once to go on holidays to Mauritius, and the second time was from Mauritius to Rodrigues Island. Both times, I was quite pleased with the service, and the polite, friendly air staff. Air Mauritius might not operate many flights- around eighty to a hundred per week- but I really enjoyed the cozy comfort of the flight.


When we boarded the plane, the stewards and stewardesses were quite helpful and at one point, I saw one of them reassuring an extremely worried passenger. Quite the opposite of the rude, brash stewards I encountered on other previous flights. Moreover, I must admit that there was no sense of formality in the air. Those who love formal and luxurious environment might be disappointed, because despite travelling first class, I was surprised by the rather homely atmosphere. Personally, I preferred this to any posh airs or graces!


The food was good. Not excellent but not awful either. I can easily compare the food to the awful meals I was served when I once boarded Air France. On my Air Mauritius flight to Rodrigues, we were handed candy before boarding and during the short one and a half hour flight, we were served light but delicious lunch and exotic fruit. During my longer flights, however, I particularly appreciated the leg space and I could even curl up on my seat for a short nap.

My friends told me that some Air Mauritius planes are quite old but I was lucky enough to board quite a new (and nice smelling) one. I particularly enjoyed the colorful cabin design, which I was told by a stewardess, was supposed to reflect the priceless beauty of The Republic of Mauritius.
