Good airline (Air New Zealand)

Advantages: good staff, good food, good legroom

Disadvantages: old plane, poor facilities

A few years back I went on a rugby tour to new zealand and flew with Air New Zealand. Although I had regularly endured the 8 hour transatlantic flights, I had never had to do one quite son long.

We departed from Heathrow and flew via LA. The plane itself was very old, however I do not know if the whole fleet is like this. We had to share one big screen for each cabin instead of personal screens where you can watch what you want, this for me was annoying, as we had to endure 2 6 hour flight like this, not choosing what we could watch and therefore if you didnt like, time dragged.

Although the plane was old it still had sufficient leg room, by far the best I had ever enjoyed, it was excellent for cattle class, now I am not sure if this is requirement for such long flights but eitherway it is great to not have your knees digging into the seat in front.

The staff were very friendly and polite as you would expect and the food was not bad at all.

All in all I seem to remember the flight as flying by considering its length which is a testimony more to the service than facilities onboard.

Summary: good value for money
