Advantages: none, unless you are prepared to take days getting there

An American Airline flying only internally in the US, I would *never* use them again!
We chose to use them to fly internally from NYC to Orlando because they offered the cheapest fares.
they are very much a budget airline, so there is no inflight food except a packet of crackers, and the approach is very much no-frills.
They are without a doubt very cheap, but in the end, we were stranded at Atlanta airport for 36 hours because of their incompetence.
The whole thing was a nightmare that I do not enjoy recalling, but if it makes just one person think again about going for price above all else, then it's worth it.....
Suffice it to say, Air Tran messed up the flights of probably thousands of people that day, they did not offer any form of compensation at the time, they did not prioritise families with children or people travelling as an emergency to be with loved ones who were dying.
They had everyone on and off planes, sitting on the runway for hours on end in the middle of the night...they were rude to a woman who was extremely distressed about getting back to be with her dying father...
they guaranteed us seats on another flight, only to have given them to someone else before we arrived back at the airport having chosen to give the kids a bed to sleep in for a few hours.........
it was a nightmare.
If you ever consider flying with them, do it with your eyes wide open to the fact that you may spend days and or nights in some airport from which you could drive to your destination more quickly.
