Advantages: Came with the holiday
Disadvantages: Help! no space, Cost a lot goods
Hello. Ola, and G'day.
I have just returned from a holiday in Jamaica. The travel was upon the AirTours Airline so I thought I would share my experience. There were 3 of us on the trip, and sadly I cant remember the type of plane on the outbound trip. I have split it into sections, sorry if this is a bit arse, but I blame the Jet Lag and the vomiting (see later)...
we left from Manchester and Landed in Montego Bay, and Visa versa for the return, so all comments will only be on the service / experience for those places.
THE CHECK IN.
Once at manchester we went straight to the check in desk. The staff were efficient, and only slightly self important - a feat indead thinking of all the grief they must get day after day. The lady we had was fast and clear in the check in, right up to the point she got all snotty about Carol's carry on being heavy, whilst mine and Daves were light. after a tiny lecture to make herself feel better she then said 'but its ok as those two both have light bags so you can share the weight.' We promtly didnt bother to do so & that was ok.
THe Return Check in. - Montego Bay.
This was a little less organised. But they were just as efficient & not at all self important. Our seat allocations had dissapeared, but they dealt with that deftly & off we trotted to have a lovely 2 hours wit in the departure lounge. The lack of snottyness made the whole afair more calming and cheeriy than in the UK.
The Flight out.
On the flight out we were on an older plane, sadly I cannot remember the type. It was clean and well kept, as should be. THere were No individual TV sets however, a thing I had become used to on commuter flights to the USA (Ponce that I am). The Toilets were clean and well stocked, no complaints from me.
The problem with the plane was simple - LACK OF SPACE. they shove so many seats in it is impossible to get any form of comfort
once passed the age of 10 years of age. Grrrr.
THe Flight back
This time the pride of the Fleet, no not the Ark Royal, but the Airbus 3310 (?).
This was much funkier.
Individual TV screens.
Overhead Monitors showing map of Flight and info on speed, heading, and other such neat stuff.
Touch screen/ arm rest controls to bounce around the channels - including the neat two view camera's - Great for the take off & going over land masses.
What I think was the neatest trick they have done with this plane was the .... wait for it..... Ta Dahhhhh.. Downstairs Toilet Suite!
Neat eh? In the centre of the craft there are stairs down to 5 toilet cubes, and 4 bench seats - meaning an area to stretch legs and relax and chat. A definate cool idea. I liked that a lot, but I am easily pleased....
Again the downfall was the Space. I am only 5 foot ten and 38 & a half inch chest but I was still Far to big to fit in the chair or be in any way happy with the space.
The Staff & Crew
The crew (as far as you can tell) were competent and well deserving their wings. The captin on the return flight was much more interactive, often giving us info on the flight, which was nice.
The Cabin Staff were good, not quite as pleasent as BA, or Continental, but then again the pressures of smilling on one of there cattle trucks is much harder, I would guess. I was especially impressed with the return staff, mush more friendly service on the new Airbus.
The Stuff On sale
Food and drinks were (as to be expected) Overpriced. They was not a big enuff change kitty for the Cabin crew to use. Duty free was the same as usual. Can you tell I am not much of a shopper?!
THE BIG (BIG) PROBLEM....
(apart from the space)
THe Food. It was Dire. Tiny Meals, for tiny seats.
On the way out the person in charge of stock control must have been busy rifling through peoples luggage as they f
orgot to put enuf meals on board the damn thing. Doh!
On the Return Flight the Brakefast had off milk, which many passengers returned. Sadly I was still half asleep and only realised the taste after eating it all. This resulted in me sitting in a motorway services & Projectile vomiting until I had remved my stomach and throat Lining for a hour and a half. Not good. Dave also felt ill after the brakefast, whilst carol was fine because she didnt eat it.
SO TO CONCLUDE.
Not great. The fancy Ideas and staff efficency are let down by the fundemental logistical and space downfalls.
I will most likely pay to upgrade to BA or try the Airtours 1st class if I have to fly with them again.
Not enuff room to make a good flight & afterall the flight is part of the holiday, so it should be a good experience.
Erm. Any other info you want just ask & I will Add info.
Whats our Vector, Victor?
Thats a Roger, Roger.
