Better than Virgin? (American Airlines)

Advantages: Relatively cheap, great entertainment, fantastic food.

Disadvantages: Not always the cheapest.

I booked a return ticket to JFK, New York on American Airlines as it was £50 cheaper for the dates I wanted to travel than my usual airline, Virgin Atlantic. I bought an electronic game and a new walkman before the first flight as I didn't know whether they offered any kind of entertainment on the flight. Usually when I travelled with Virgin I was looking forward to my choice of movies and video games and a few days before flying I really began to regret my decision to fly with AA.

I need not have worried. The video screen feature in the back of each seat was there and larger than Virgin's. The video games on offer were also far superior and more up to date than the SNES offerings from Virgin. The food? The best airline meal I had ever tasted. When you were asked if you wanted a drink they supplied you with 'real' coca cola (a full size can) and anybody requesting alcoholic beverages got double the normal size served with Virgin or BA. Whether this is a good thing remains to be seen! The seating arrangements in AA planes goes 2-4-2 so you only ever have to crawl over one person to get to the aisle. As I flew overnight this was a great bonus.

Overall, AA would be my first choice for flying across the Atlantic now. Everything from start to finish was perfect and the flight experience as good as you could hope for.
