Advantages: Efficient, Superb connections , Good food
Disadvantages: none
Sadly this carrier no longer operates on the route I use most frequently, to South Africa. Their service on this route was one of the best of any competing carrier, especially their business class (two cabin configuration so their business was closer to first). The seats on the A340's all (even in economy) have a video screen, and a number of other useless (depending on point of view) gizmos. The service is excellent with attentive and friendly crews keeping the cabins neat. Good food, and generous supplies of drinks, and a good choice of reading material, made the flights go fast. Also, the timings were convenient. After a few return flights to SA, I started using OS within Europe especially Eastern Europe where they have excellent short connections through Vienna. Many of their flights, especially those operated by Lauda Air (NG) are configured one class which effectively is business class service with a choice of three main courses even on a two hour flight. I have never had a late flight or a lost bag, Vienna airport is a dream to change at, it is also quick and easy to get into town from there if you have a few hours to spare, to enjoy delicious Austrian food. Also they are part of the Star Alliance so any flights accumulate miles on British Midland or Lufthansa (amongst others) FF accounts.

- 19/04/02 Good op - nice to read an airline op by someone who has flown them more than once. Agree with you on their excellent Eastern Europe network and they are probably one of the most under-rated airlines I sell. |
