Advantages: in-flight entertainment, information, don't have to have meal so cheaper
I flew with Britannia to Samos in August 2000, near the end of the summer holidays. We didn't pick this airline, it was part of a Thomson package. I was pleasantly surprised, as I can't stand flying! I was in a Boeing 757 which is a pretty standard plane, and the seats were very cramped. When the seat in front was tipped back, there wasn't enough space to read the free copy of the Express. However, I'm 5 ft 9 with long legs and it was tolerable, what i'd expect on a package flight like I was on.
I booked the holiday through just.co.uk, a branch of thomsons holidays on the internet, that sell on the fact that you don't pay for things you don't want. We were able to opt not to have a meal on the plane (they always make me travel sick). This was handy, although the meals actually looked quite nice. However, the fact that only half the people were eating meant that the food was served very slowly with lots of confusion over vegetarian meals. We were offered drinks, crisps and chocolate bars at reasonable prices, but you don't get complimentary coffee/tea, or little sweets to suck on take-off. They don't mind if you take your own packed lunch on board!
The service was fine and the decor was cheerful and clean, and the tv screens were easy to see. I was impressed by the in-flight entertainment. Instead of a film, there was a selection of comedy, mostly britcoms like best-of Goodness gracious Me, The Fast Show and Dinnerladies. There was also Rugrats and Rocko's Modern Life for kids. These were pretty funny and the little adverts inbetween weren't too annoying. The entertainment was paused every hour or so and information like a map, temperature and time on plane left was shown, which was interesting. The radio channels were absolutely dire looped dull music, but i fins that on every airline.
This airline is great for short-haul daytime flights. I would hesitate to spend more than 4 hours or try to sle
ep because it's a bit cramped, but apart from that it's my favourite package airline.
