Advantages: Great customer service, large number of destinations

Disadvantages: None

In October 2008 we flew with British Airways from Heathrow to San Francisco in World Traveller class. British Airways' new home at terminal 5 is very impressive and gives a great first impression. The check in process was the best that I have ever experienced, as was passing through security. Once on the plane I realised that this was the first plane journey that I have ever been on where I did not once have to queue at any stage. Even when our flight was called for boarding, a jumbo jet full of people posed no problem. Once on the plane we were kept informed by the captain of our departure time and that our approximate flying time would be 10 hours. The crew were pleasant and welcoming and offered to help stow belongings. On each seat was pack containing socks, an eye shade, headphones and a toothbrush. After take off we were offered a drink, all drinks on board long-haul flights are free of charge (including alcohol) and they are certainly not stingy. After about an hour and half they served the first meal service which was standard airline food, although perfectly edible was nothing amazing. The seats were comfortable, although I would advise when flying west to the states that you sit on the right-hand side of the aircraft as the sun on the left side of plane can make things a little too warm. About an hour or so before landing we were offered a snack which consisted of a sandwich, some juice and cake. I would like to point out that there was plenty of food and drink available throughout the flight. There was a help yourself section in the galley where you could take whichever snacks/drinks you wanted. Overall both outbound and inbound flights were excellent, and now BA have their base at T5 and all baggage issues etc. have been sorted I would not hesitate to recommend BA.

Summary: A very impressive airline with good, solid customer service
