Advantages: Cheap flights in the sales, onboard meals, entertainment and drinks!
Disadvantages: None i found on our flights
On my recent trip to New York I flew with British Airways.
I booked the trip back in January this year and at this time BA had there January Sale on which was the main reason that I booked with them, our return flights to New York City were £256 each for a World Traveler (basically what they call economy) seat and after getting advise from the travel forum on moneysavingexpert.com and being told this was a good price I went ahead and booked.
Once my booking was made all my communication with BA was done online, I didn't have a paper ticket, I had an e-ticket which meant that my booking was stored in there reservations system, I loaded our passport details online and filled in our Visa Waiver Programme application via there site too.
I was impressed that they sent me an email approximately every month as a reminder of my trip (like I could forget I was going to the Big Apple though!).
As I didn't have a ticket when it came to check in BA offered 3 options, check in online from 24 hours before, check in at a self service kiosk at Gatwick or a desk at Gatwick.
They sent us an email to inform us the online check in was open a day before we went and we opted to check in using the online facility, this was very easy to use and allowed us to pick our seats and if you a vegetarian choose a veggie meal for your trip.
Once we had checked in we printed our boarding passes and also had them emailed to us just incase.
On our return flight at JFK we used the self service kiosk due to lack of computer in NYC and this was also very easy to use, I just popped in my debit card I had paid with and it automatically brought up the booking, we scanned our passports, chose our seats and it printed our boarding cards.
Both methods were very easy and quick to use.
On the flights themselves I found the service to be excellent, even though we were classed as economy passengers we had small pillows and a blanket, a mini toiletries set with eye mask for people who wanted to sleep, a choice of 12 Entertainment Channels to watch TV and films on and we got 2 meals on each flight of a good standard and free alcoholic drinks!
The staff were all pleasant apart from one slightly stroppy air hostess as I needed another green card to fill in (the form that the Americans now insist you fill in online means nothing I found out on the plane, you still have to do a manual one!), the captains were informative and when we had a 2 hour flight delay just sitting on the plane on the way home (this wasn't the fault of British Airways) our captain kept us updated for the whole time which was nice.
Our bags were also out promptly at JFK and Gatwick.
I would happily fly with BA again, might treat myself to an upgrade next time but had no issues with them at all.
Summary: Would definately fly with them again.
